This axe is awesome. It's strong and sturdy, doesn't vibrate your hands and is nice and sharp so you're not standing there for hours. As someone who basically lives in a forest, this is an awesome addition for us. From a girls point of view, it's pretty stylish looking too. Really gets the job done smoothly and timely!
Fiskars 8lb Maul makes a good companion to the Fiskars 36 inch splitting ax. Both are excellent and have different uses. The weight of the maul uses gravity, to do the work; therefore, you expend a lot of energy lifting the 8 pounds. But… It can handle stubborn pieces of wood.
This maul really does the job. It's heavier than a normal axe and is the first maul I've owned. I occasionally get it stuck in the a piece of wood (usually a larger chunk), but am able to use a sledge hammer to finish the job. With the durability of this thing (I have missed the piece of wood and it vibrates my hands, but doesn't show wear on the maul) I expect it to last a long time. It cuts cleanly through the wood and has made splitting wood for camp fires a lot easier for me!
Excellent product that is well made! The grip is very sturdy. It has an amazing shock control system which makes it easy to lift and strike down, and creates much less shock on the body , which makes it amazingly easy to use! The head is inseparable which is must and makes it in a superior quality. It comes with a protective cove to keep the edge sharp and keep me safe. Excellent product!
Over 100 cord later the maul head to handle connection finally failed. Couldn't be happier with how long its lasted, its ergonomics, or its performance on hard to split wood. Will definitely be buying another one. Thanks fiskars for saving my joints!!!!!
I have always been a fan of Fiskars products in the quilting line (sewing products) but recently learned of their outdoor products. This is a massive beast. I didn't know if I would be able to split these big logs, but one swing of this thing and it was NO problem! I'm 50 y/o female and I had no problem lifting it to swing it to split wood. It did not cause any vibration in my hands either. Very very nice maul.
It splits extremely efficiently. Been splitting nothing but semi-seasoned oak and it tears through it as long as you can place the head properly. It's very durable. Overswings that strike the handle just below the head do little to no damage to the handle, even with full force, wound-up, over-the-shoulder swings. Nicks on the blade barely damage it in my experience, most I've taken off the blade is 1/32 of an inch, and 1/16th, but the 16th was me accidentally hitting the corner of a wedge while trying some fancy technique. It dissipates shock very well. No matter how hard you strike, (as long as you wear shock absorbing gloves) there's very little shock. It does very well compared to wooden or steel handle mauls regardless, but those gloves take all the pain away do I highly recommend using them with this maul. Overall, I just really enjoy it. The build, the safety features, the durability, the efficiency, it just has it all. Love it.
Im on my 4th 8lb maul, in a time frame of 2.5 yrs... love the 8lb, but it keeps breaking inside the bit. And no one around my area here in chemung county ny honors your "lifetime in store warranty" I sell firewood for a living and its the way I split wood, with a maul. Not satisfied...
First the good things. We used it over a period of a couple weeks to do some work around the farm. It worked great for driving in wood posts and chopping wood. The grip on the handle is awesome and didn't leave anyone with any blisters and I believe the shock absorption really helped. The only bad thing I really have to say is that the edge has a knick in it after splitting the first log but it has held up otherwise.
I'm on my second of these and the plastic on both has cracked at the neck. Fiskars was great about replacing the original crack right away. But they aren't allowing me to warranty the replacement product they sent me that also cracked. Either they stand behind their product or they don't. But standing behind an original and not standing behind a replacement is a little ridiculous.
