What I like most about this THINKYA JA-310R is that it gives me a way to listen to CDs again without feeling like I'm using an outdated piece of equipment. The wood-look finish and smoked transparent cover give it a really nice retro appearance, but the connection options make it much more useful with a modern audio setup.
One thing buyers absolutely need to know before ordering is that this is not an all-in-one CD player with built-in speakers. You'll need headphones, powered speakers, or another audio system to actually hear your music. It also doesn't have a built-in battery, so it needs to be connected to power while you're using it. I actually appreciate the compact design, but those are important details because someone expecting to open the box and immediately hear music directly from the unit could be disappointed.
The versatility is where this player stands out for me. Besides regular CDs, it can handle CD-R/RW discs, and there are several ways to get the audio where you want it. It has a 3.5mm connection for wired listening, optical SPDIF for connecting compatible home-audio equipment, Bluetooth transmission for wireless headphones or speakers, and USB playback for compatible digital music files.
The included remote is another feature I appreciate because I don't have to walk over to the player every time I want to pause, skip a track, change the volume, or repeat something. The controls on the unit itself are straightforward as well.
I also like being able to see the disc through the tinted cover while it's playing. It gives the player some personality and makes it look more interesting sitting out on a desk, shelf, or entertainment center rather than looking like another plain electronic box.
For me, the biggest positives are the compact size, attractive retro design, multiple connection choices, remote control, and the ability to use physical CDs with newer audio equipment. The main drawbacks aren't necessarily flaws, but things you should understand before buying: there are no built-in speakers, no internal battery, and you'll need compatible external audio equipment.
If you already have speakers, headphones, a soundbar, or a home audio system and want a compact dedicated player for your CD collection, this is a much more interesting option than I expected. It combines the nostalgia of actually putting on a CD with enough modern connectivity to make that old collection useful again.
