I have used this backpack already on 4 vacations and road trips. Holds everything I could need on a flight, car trip, and even 3-4 night stay without needing additional luggage. I use it for work and school, and couldn't have designed a more perfect backpack for every reason I need it.
I had a zipper fail on a ~ 5-year-old Jansport backpack. The zipper kept getting caught in the hood fabric over it and eventually broke. I notified Jansport, mailed in my pack (at my own expense), and then received an e-gift card for an equivalent new backpack.
I love this pack. I have had this model or a very similar model twice before. This new pack is a replacement for the same model I bought four years ago. I used it every day for my commute to work and it also went with me to Norway, Guatemala, and Alaska.
I am truly happy that I purchased this product. The backpack has so many fantastic qualities from dual mesh bottle holders with secure straps for your taller bottles to extending into a larger pack if needed. I enjoy the laptop sleeve inside the main compartment (I use it as a paper pocket). I pack my exercise clothes and shower supplies with a full sized towel easily into it. The pack has plenty of space and the front is designed so you can clip things onto the front if you so choose. There are great hidden pockets to stow away everything you need to bring along.
Easy to organize and pack with separate compartments and interior pockets. Straps are very comfortable. Best of all it fits under an airline seat, a biggy for me. Easily holds extra shoes and two outfits along with toiletries for a long weekend. Love it!
My husband had a Jansport that was grey, white, and had fuchsia zippers for years. It was in perfect condition, until a bottle of bleach did not close properly and leaked inside (he is a science consultant). He did not notice the problem for hours. It discolored the side and bottom. He was heartbroken. He loved that backpack. He made that his fishing backpack and I bought him this new spiffy one for work and travel.
I bought this backpack for my daughter she likes it. She mentioned it is a bit tight though. I bought a lot of Jansport backpacks for my kids, they are durable, sturdy. We bought other brands before but they barely last a year Jansport is well made to last. I recommend it to friends.
I needed a Women specific backpack with more space in it. The straps in the front are way too wide and very hard, uncomfortable to wear for any length of time. I was so excited to find this pack, it holds a lot but sorry that I am disappointed in the straps. I will have to do something else. We are on a trip to Hawaii and use it all the time, and for some reason it just doesn't set just right and pulls on my neck.
I was quite happy to receive a gift card for my old Agave Jansport backpack which I used a lot for the last like 4 years. I hike, travel and ski a lot. I got the new Agave, and one of the waist straps became unstitched, and fell off with only having it for like a week :/// Might just be a lemon of the bunch. Now I have to try and find someone to sew it, Or I could send it back. But then that's another $25 of shipping handling and taxes. Probably, I'll have to go to the outdoor sports outlet and just try another backpack.
As a pilot, I have been using a Jansport Odyssey 38 for 15 years to carry what I need to go fly as well as all my work trips. That backpack had reached the end of it's lifespan and it was time to replace it, so I looked at the Agave and the Odyssey 39. I decided that the extra space and features of the Odyssey 39 were unnecessary for what I needed, and most of the design features are common between the two packs anyway. There are some small things that could have been done differently with the pack that would make it significantly better. As designed, however, I was very underwhelmed upon receipt of the pack and after the trip with it. 1. The upper stash pocket (in front of the shoulder straps) is too small to be useful for much of anything. On my Odyssey 38 I would keep my cell phone, passport wallet and normal wallet in the same pocket for quick access. On the agave, the opening is too narrow to fit my cell phone, the pocket is too shallow to fit my passport wallet, and my normal wallet will barely fit. Luckily one of my pocket flashlights is short enough to fit in there, as the opening is even too narrow to fit my 2x AA flashlight in the pocket. 2. The fabric overlap on the hydration port is too small. Even when static, without anything in the pack, the port is pulled open with the white colored inner lining visible. This will make it much easier for precipitation to enter the top of the pack, which is coincidently directly above the laptop pouch and exactly where I don't want it. This is simply lazy design. 3. The zippers low quality and not secure enough. By pulling on the fabric on either side of two main closure zippers, but without actually touching the zipper pulls themselves, both open without any resistance. This means when stashing or retrieving the backpack there is risk of the pack being pulled open either by the fabric or the zipper pulls themselves and the contents spilling out. 4. The weather flap over the main compartment zipper is not robust enough. When combined with the low quality zippers means that unless I consciously fold it back, the zippers get caught on the weather flap and jam almost every time when either opening or closing the main compartment. 5. having the tablet sleeve on the front of the forward compartment means that when that compartment is open the weight of the tablet pulls the front of the pack open. With more robust zippers with is would not happen. If Jansport insisted on the lower quality zippers, putting the tablet pouch on the back of the forward compartment would ensure that it better supported. Even with better zippers, I'd still prefer to have the tablet sleeve on the back so that it is in a more protected location. 6. The pen loops are insufficient to maintain positive control of the pens in the forward compartments. As the entire length of the pens is hanging free, anything added to bottom of the forward compartment easily gets caught or tangled up in the pens/pencils there. Sewing legitimate pens sleeves next to the cell phone pockets would be a much better choice. 7. The cell phone pocket is too wide and shallow for most modern phones. The top 1/3 of my phone sticks out of the pocket and its not sufficiently supported. I instead use it for my wallet, as it fits there perfectly and the wallet does not fit well in the stash pocket. 8. The choice of white for the lining fabric was a poor one. It will show dirt and stains much more than any other color. If the company was looking for contrast with the black exterior, a light grey would have been a much better choice. 9. The hand grip on the top of the pack should be wider and more robust. As built the webbing is very lightweight, narrow and is uncomfortable in the hand when carrying the pack or retrieving it. I understand that all design decisions are ultimately economic decisions, but for just a couple of dollars more worth of fabric and zippers this mediocre pack could have been a very good backpack. Shame on the bookkeepers and the product testers. Would not recommend.
