While it may be a little advanced for my 8/9 yr old. But many tricks worked well

I bought this for my 3 and 5 year old grandsons, and considering they break everything eventually anyway, it was an OK purchase. Some of the tricks are made of plastic and break very easily; one never fully worked at all. (The pencil trick). The coloring book and flower in the wand were very good and my grandsons loved those, also the exploding dice.

I searched high and low for a beginner's magic set and decided on this one because I was looking for something more unique than tricks in the usual mass market sets, like cups and balls, spikes through coin, and expanding sponges. The creator of this set seems to have put a lot of thought into this product, which I really appreciate. The reason for 4 stars (rather than 5) is that several of the items probably won't hold up well over time. The plastic on a couple of the items seems brittle and I think a small child can easily break those if not careful. A few of the other items are made of rather thin paper; realizing those will wear down quickly, I've laminated those to make them last longer.

My nephew just turned 9 when I bought this for him. He was a bit too old for the juvenile tricks that are included in this kit.
