If you like braunschweiger this is the best brand you can find at my local Walmart. It is priced reasonably and is a perfect size to enjoy on sandwiches or crackers and last for a little bit. Once it is opened though, you want to finish it in a few days or it can start to get slimy and gross. The flavor is rich and delicious, and it is easy to spread it across bread or crackers. I enjoy this as a treat now and again when I am sick of regular lunch meat.
I was born and raised in South Jersey. Many good German folks remained there after WWII. One thing they brought with them was food, schnaps and beer. Morrell's Braunschweiger I have loved for decades and that's no kidding. Now for those faint of heart you should know this is made from liver. Yep it is animal liver that is ground, mixed, softened and packaged and I have to say, I would eat this in lieu of a hotdog any day. It's kind of hard to work with, it sticks to everything that it touches, but it also stick to your ribs. Slice two slabs thin, about a quarter inch or so, throw down some of that gold 'ole yellow stuff and either slice or dice some onion and I mean you're in Heaven. It is a taste you may have to acquire or fall in love first bite. What you don't want to eat, I will!
With rising prices, finding any sort of meat product for $3.32/lb is a win. The flavor of the liverwurst is excellent, maybe not as perfect as Boar's Head brand, but it's 1/3 of the price of Boar's Head. This is a cheap, nutritious protien that happens to taste delicious on a sandwich.
Weird review, but I was looking for something to hide my dog's medication in. This stuff is completely gross smelling and I would never eat it, BUT, my dogs act like it's the best tasting and smelling stuff on earth. For that reason, I give it the highest recommendation. You know when you're successful at hiding large capsules and pills to your dogs, it's a good day.
The Morrell brand always hits the spot! Thinly sliced liverwurst sandwiches (w/mayo, lettuce, and light onion) have been a favorite of mine over 40 years, and Morrell has been the brand of my choosing every time! In our world of economic and livestock changes, Morrell hasn't changed its consistency or taste like so many other brands, and, it's still the historical and AFFORDABLE option!
I do know other people who say they love Morrell's Braunschweiger however I buy for my dog Taz. She it's as a treat when I slice %26 cut it into pieces for her. you It's a fantastic alternative to regular dog treats for FOUR REASONS, she loves it, it's much more affordable than everyday dog Treats, it's INCREDIBLY HEALTHY WITH ONLY 2 INGREDIENTS LIVER %26 salt %26 the last reason is it's a far better option for giving her pills than traditional pill pockets... she never fell for pill pockets %26 it's really difficult to get medication past her even if you've crushed %26 liquefied it before adding it to tuna.. that works for awhile but too many times in a row puts her off the tuna for twice as long. Slicing %26 cutting the Braunschweiger into pieces then hiding a pill or half a pill into two pieces mixed among several more always does the trick!
I grew-up eating Braunschweiger (AKA Liverwurst), and love using it in sandwiches and various appetizers. John Morrell's brand has a consistent taste and texture. And the one pound package is perfect for my family. They do offer smaller amounts too, should you not need as much.
I you like Braunschweiger, this is about as good as it gets in the southeast. but once opened you have to eat it within a few weeks of course, or it turns. I eat it between two slices of bread with some Mericle Whip on sour dough... oh Lord that's good.
Braunschweiger is definitely an acquired taste either you like liver or you don't. There is no in between. If you DO, then I recommend this. It has classic liver flavored mellow by other ingredients. It much firmer than a pate, less spreadable. I usuallyslice it and eat it with crackers
It was okay, but has been over 10 years since I last had some Braunschweiger. The experience was like the time I was unable to drink coffee for almost a year, and the first cup after all that time was - well, it took a long time to enjoy coffee again.
