My son has been obsessed with trains since he was very little. We have every track system, every locomotive, every accessory you can imagine. So when he started getting into building sets as he gets older, a train-themed Lego-style kit was an obvious next step. This set is pricier than other brands. This Joycrown freight locomotive set is just right. The 1078 pieces sounds like a lot, but the build is well-organized and the instructions are straightforward. The finished model looks good sitting on a shelf, not like a toy approximation of a train but something with real visual weight and detail. The rechargeable motor is what separates this from a purely static build. Once it's assembled and charged, it actually runs on the included 32-rail track layout. For a kid who grew up running trains on the floor, this Lego style train set bridges the gap between the building hobby and the train hobby in a way that felt natural for him.

We already owned this Lego style motorized block train set in a different color, so picking up this version was an easy call. The first one was impressive enough that a second set made sense. My son has been into trains for a long time. We have the wooden sets, the electric layouts, etc. When building sets became his thing, a motorized train kit was the overlap between two hobbies he was already deep into. The 1065 pieces sounds like it should take a weekend to sort out, but the build moves faster than you'd expect. The instructions are clear, the parts are grouped sensibly, and nothing felt like a guessing game. The finished locomotive has real heft to it. It looks like a nice version of a train. What makes this more than a shelf piece is the rechargeable motor. The thing actually runs. You put together the track layout, charge it up, and watch it go. For a kid who spent years on his hands and knees running trains across living room floors, that detail matters. It connects what he loves about trains to what he loves now about building. This set is on the pricier side, so keep that in mind.

We all know the big name that has all the business, and these are right on par with them! Instructions are similar, of course the blocks themselves are too! I didn't pay attention, but this is over 1065 pieces... so this is going to take me a while to build but I wanted to get it out and see what all it is about. It is way heavier than I expected. the power unit (the engine/motor/ thing that makes it move) is in a little white bag, the rest are marked 1 2 and 3 so you can keep them seperate. Nice touch, right on par with the big block boys! I tried the gentle bend test and twist, just to see if these felt strong, and they sure do, they flex a little less than the big guys, and with plastic, sometimes that means it is fragile, it may not "give" and will snap instead of bending. This doesn't feel like the snapping stiff plastic, it just isn't the exact feel as the other guys. But what a value, a full on train set that looks just like the real life trains, very very cool, highly recommend this

Train set looks very nice. Think it will be a little bit of a challenge to put together but I like that. Nieces and nephews will help build and I'm sure it will be a lot of fun when completed. Looks very good. Quality building block set.
