I wanted the real charcoal experience, not briquets. Didn't realize the size could be as big as bigger than a soft ball and slightly smaller than a soccer ball. The big one were great for father's day and other family gatherings. Since it is just hubby and me most of the time, I will not order the big bags next time with the hope that there will be more smaller pieces for grilling hamburgers and small steaks.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Over time I've used the Masterbuilt lumps and starters have no issues, they both have worked great. My only issues is like all others by the time you get the lumps you have alot of smaller pieces due to shipping. But that's with every other lump product out there.

I was a little skeptic as I've always used briquettes in my gravity series, but this lump was great! Huge pieces and burned nice and controlled. The firestarters are my new favorite too. I had been using something else consistently for a while but these haven't failed to start the grill yet.

Coal burns consistently and has good lump size for the gravity hopper on the MB series smoker/grill. Online ordering may be more consistent that finding inventory at your local WalMart since they seem to run out quickly or not have it at all. Firestarters are ideal for the MB series as they fit well and it only takes a few seconds to get them lit. After a few minutes, the hopper is ready to close up and heat the unit.

Using this charcoal starter is effortless. 2-3 small pieces precut already placed in your Large chunk KJ charcoal lights evenly and quikly. 15 minutes later, your ready to go with confidence! No flavor or odor residue of any kind. I highly recommend using this product.

I bought the lump charcoal two pack with fire starters. The lump coal has been great. Really like the smoke and flavor it imparts. Only problem was I bought the combo pack and didn't receive the fire starters. I tried emailing customer service but never got a response.
