The secret to the world's best bran muffins

lorna444birds April 1, 2015

This cereal tastes good. The consistency, however, is very mushy. It looks more like dead pine needles than food. Its greatness lies not in its use as a cereal, but in its ability to transform baked goods into healthy snacks. If you read the labels on store-bought bran muffins, you will often see that they are as fatty and as sugary as donuts. Many contain chemicals and preservatives. Making them at home allows you control over what goes into them. All-Bran Cereal adds fiber and good flavor, and you don't have to stop at muffins. You can use them in banana breads, too. Just add the cereal to the liquid and let it sit for 5 minutes; then bake as usual. Substitute apple sauce for oil to make them lower in fat. It's also a great way to get kids to eat less sugary cereals, and give them a healthy breakfast. Bran muffins freeze well, too.

Great and tasty way to stay regular.

cricketoes April 13, 2015

This cereal is an easy and enjoyable way to stay regular. I remember when I was younger I loved this cereal but always thought it looked like cardboard. Now that I'm older I really appreciate things like this! This cereal contains a high amount of natural wheat bran fiber and has an excellent taste. Some people think I'm nuts but I really love sugar on this cereal. It's sooo super good with sugar. I also love to cook with it. I've made lots of all bran muffins with this. And carrot cake. You can also add this to hamburgers. You can find lots of recipes that use this cereal to add fiber to your diet. I can't go through the day without eating All-Bran Cereal in one form or another, to help me stay regular. Per serving there is 80 mg sodium, 80 calories, and 10 Gs of dietary fiber.

Fiber is good for you!

Loves2pedal April 11, 2015

If you need to add more fiber to your diet, this is a good way to do it. I enjoy the nutty flavor but if the consistency isn't something you find appealing, you can mix it with another cereal and it blends well. Just watch the portion size. 40% of your daily fiber in one half cup is pretty impressive. Add some fruit and it's a very nice breakfast. The box doesn't mention that you can make bran muffins, but you can and they are tasty. Add some nuts and raisins and they are wonderful. I sprinkled some on top of my macaroni and cheese before putting it into the oven to bake and it also turned out nicely. Just don't use too much. Creativity kicked in, (or the need for chocolate). I mixed up a small batch of cereal, chopped walnuts, sliced almonds and about a half-cup of melted chocolate. Dropped them onto parchment paper in a small pan and popped them into the freezer... the prototype was quite promising!

1/2 cup fills ya up!

mrblueu April 10, 2015

I have some bowls that have measurement on the inside and about all I use the small one for, is cereal. The Kellogg's All-Bran Original cereal is especially great for those that need more fiber in their diet. I pour about 1/2 cup of Kellogg's Original All Bran, into a bowl with milk and some times I add fruit. It does a fantastic job keeping me 'regular'. If something doesn't taste good, I don't eat it no matter how great it is for me. This cereal tastes GREAT! It's not flakes and it doesn't wilt in milk. It's not overly crunchy so it's great for those that have sensitive teeth. I'll be purchasing this cereal over others now but also going to try their new 'Bran Buds' as it sounds excellent too.

Best Fiber Cereal for Me

FranDe June 25, 2016

I have tried many brands of fiber cereals and find that the Kellogg's All-Bran works best, natural results, much better taste than Fiber One's Bran cereal. Works better than Fiber One even though this has fewer grams of fiber. Best price I find is through Walmart. Even better savings if you have a manufacturer's coupon and can get to a Walmart location.

Kellogg's All-Bran Original

SuperAmmi April 16, 2015

Kellogg's All-Bran Original has 10 grams of fiber per ½ cup serving. That is 40% of the daily value. There are 80 calories, 80 mg of sodium, 0 grams of saturated fat, and 6 grams of sugar in a ½ cup serving. Everyone at my house liked this cereal. It was sweet enough without the need to add more sugar. The shape of the cereal got mixed reviews by my family of 6. Some liked the shape and thought it was clever how it looked like strands of wheat, while others did not like the strands, they thought they were too long and wished it was in smaller bits. I did not think the appearance in the bowl was very appealing. The texture was a bit course and at least 3 members of my family including myself felt that because of the texture, it kind of stuck in the throat after swallowing. Overall the taste was very good, it reminded me of raisin bran without the raisins, and so if you are looking for a cereal with less sugar this may be it. Kellogg's All-Bran Original is made with natural wheat bran fiber, and wheat bran is the first ingredient, then sugar, malt flavor, and 2% or less of salt. That is it.

All about the Fiber!!

CoffeeDiva62 April 2, 2015

I received as a Sparks review item. I had tried this cereal years ago in my 20's when I fiber intake was not an issue and found it not at all palatable. I am now in my 50's and having to take calcium every day which is very constipating. I was advised to increase fiber to help with GI motility and so I tried this again as cereal and to incorporate into muffins I make. I guess they improved on the flavor because I like it! 1/2 cup provides 10 grams of fiber and only 6 grams sugar which is much better then most cereals.Package claims to be good source of potassium and antioxidants. Definitely a HEALTHY HEART SELECTION.

Good flavor

applepie11 April 6, 2015

I enjoy the flavor of bran that is not sweetened. This fit the bill for flavor. I think I prefer bran flakes to these small "sticks". I like to mix my beran cereal with oat rounds and this worked very well for that. Didn't get soggy quickly-a real plus as I like my cereal crispy. Overall a good product.

Does its job

SeasideMarlene July 2, 2015

Very helpful for constipation as long as the patient drinks enough fluids. The mouth feel when it is dry is almost like eating sand or sawdust. My husband loved it and said it worked well for him. The cereal seems to disintegrate in milk. I have used it in baking and it really gave a nice texture to banana nut bread, without being too dry. Will use it again for baking and let hubby have some for breakfast. Lets just face it, I have not met a bran product that is easy on the palate yet. But this one is pretty good compared to the rest.
