First time to use this, will see if my horse likes it.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I purchased this to try with my endurance horse who can be very picky about pastes and supplements. He seems to not be bothered by this paste and so far I feel like it is working well for him to maintain his energy throughout a ride.
My vet recommended this specific brand of electrolytes. My picky mare eats them as long as I sprinkle some water over them with her grain and they helped her through another hot Florida summer!
This is one of my favorite electrolytes! I was looking for a product that is easy to use and would help my horses replenish electrolytes lost from work during the summer months. I have been very happy with this product. Everyone eats it and I have noticed an increase in their water consumption. I recommend this product to all my students!
When your vet treats for winter colic he always adds a package of electrolytes because University Study's have shown they aid in breaking up impactions. Makes sense in northern climates to add a measure everyday summer and winter to help prevent Colic. With almost all 24 of our horses above the age of 25 we find buying this product in bulk at Smartpakequine to be very cost effective, and with the flavoring horses love it.
The Summer Games Electrolytes makes a huge difference for my horse's fluid / electrolyte balance. Arizona summer heat has been hard on her as she gets older (she is 17 yrs old now). No more salt irritation on the skin. I add it to her pellets and supplements in her feed, but a little of it sometimes does settle through the feed and then remains in the bottom of the feed pan. I would love to see this product in a pellet form as my horse does NOT ever leave any pellets behind in the pan.
My horse has struggled with drinking enough water year round. Over the winter, I discontinued my horse's electrolyte and saw a significant decrease in his water intake. After witnessing the dramatic decrease, I immediately put him back on Summer Games Electrolytes! My horse was back to drinking his typical daily amount of water so I decided to keep him on it year round. My horse is extremely picky, but has not had any issues with palatably with this electrolyte. I am very happy with the Summer Games Electrolyte and will definitely be keeping it in my horse's SmartPak year-round to ensure that he is drinking appropriately!
Seems like exactly what I was looking for. I have a rescue draft who sweats at the first sign of warm weather. He needs replenishment like this and luckily he is fine with it. My mare... no such luck. Won't touch it. If your horse will eat it, it's a high quality supplement
I added this to my horse's SmartPak since he is a nervous sweater. When I began feeding him it with his other supplements and grain, he visibly picked through to avoid it. I couldn't figure out why he wouldn't eat it, since I've never had problems with him or any of my other horses eating electrolytes. My trainer tried a little bit and she told me to as well. It turns out that there's a reason that he wouldn't eat it. It tastes like bad meat seasoning, extremely salty and disgusting. Following that, I had to remove it from the next months order, and decided to add Apple-A-Day (which he LOVES). Now I have a whole sack of disgusting electrolytes that I had to empty out from the Smartpak wells.
My mare isn't particularly picky about supplements, but she refused this one. She would leave it all at the bottom of her bucket, and if I mixed it in with water, she left all her grain. I like the product, but if a horse won't eat it, it doesn't matter what I think of it.
