I got the small but it's quite large for my bird (Sun conure) but he seems very comfortable perching on it even at the widest part. The smooth plastic discourages him from chewing on it and I often find him floofed up on the perch when it connected on a cold day. I was worried that he wouldn't get used to it being in his cage but after a couple days and making it the highest perch in his cage he realized that it was his new favorite spot. My house is pretty drafty but this product has made me worry less about my bird being cold plus it's safe for me to cover the cage when it's covered for the night.
I have used the previously with a sick parrot helped with warming
It took a few minutes for my cockatiel to perch on it, but once he realized it warmed his feet, he love it!
Great product! :) My macaw loves it! :)
Both of my macaws love their Thermo-Perches, and use them almost exclusively at night when the temperature in the house is between 68-72. In reviewing camera history, I would say that they spend probably 80% or more of the night on the heated perch versus elsewhere in their cages. Money well spent, in my opinion.
The heated perch is awesome but our parrot wanted to play with the cord (potential danger) We put the cord in a conduit attached to the wall and we got a large outlet cover that as ll the cord plug fit inside! This may be an item to develop for safety! Out of site out of mind!
Our Caique has had this heated perch for over a year now and couldn't be happier with it. We live in Ohio and it gets drafty in the cold winter months- Goober knows that all he has to do is climb onto his perch to get all cozy comfy warm! There are times when he is out spending playtime with me and my husband and he will get all aggitated- When we take him to his cage, he will immediately head to the heat stick..haha. This is the only place that he will sleep in his cage as well. This is the best item we could have ever purchased our little man :)
I have three Thermo-perches for three of my birds. I purchased the first one for my first bird four years ago. I just added a fourth member to the flock last week and will be adding another heated perch as well. I live in Michigan; need I say more? I also write a blog on which I highly recommended your heated perches. Each of my birds loves having toasty toes! What a great idea!
My cockatiel loves his heated perch! We live in Chicago, and it is very cold in the winter, and our home is a bit drafty. I am so glad he has something to warm him up. He especially likes sleeping on it at night. It has different degrees of warmth on it, and it doesn't get too hot, just like a very warm hand. Great product, I can't imagine what we would do without it.
I have used all three sizes of this heated perch. I have gone through 3 with my Macaw and two with my African Grey. The perch shears off where the grey plastic/fiberglass perch material is attached to the metal ring that secures it to the bars of the cage. Luckily the birds were not injured. just surprised. I called K & H without result. "It's only guaranteed for one year, sorry". I told them the product needed to be re-designed based upon my experience alone. The birds love them, sleep on them all the time. I'll continue to purchase these, but I'll have to rig some supporting bar or bracket under the perch, because $30 bucks is too much to spend on something that's going to break inside of two years without abuse.
