I've seen a lot of negative reviews for this, but they don't seem to realize that the brooder shouldn't be HOT... it just gets up to the warmth of a mother hen. The chicks sit under it and press their bodies against it, just like with a mother hen. It shouldn't get hot like a heat lamp, and it's not meant to heat their whole enclosure. It's just meant to be a source of gentle heat for the chicks, and it works perfectly for this. I'm raising 6 chicks with mine, indoors. Not sure if it would work as well outside in a shed or barn in cold weather. But for my needs, I love it. My chicks are 2 weeks old now and doing great.
It worked great for our chicks! It kept them warm and happy for many weeks.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Wildly safer than heat lamps I have always wanted one of these chick brooders! Put it to the test and it got up over 90 degrees fahrenheit in just about 10-15min. Keep in mind in order for this to work the chicks have to be TOUCHING the plate with their backs. It wont warm the general air under the brooder it works almost like a heating blanket.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Perfect size and much better than using a heat lamp. This is also much safer for your baby birds as well. I highly suggest this for your little chicks. You definitely won't be disappointed! I received CashBack on this purchase and participated in a CashBack program.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am so excited to use this! We normally keep our rooster and hens away from eachother during winter so that he isnt able to fertilze hens eggs. Our Rhode Island Red hens provide us with eggs less frequently during our Colorado winters. We are planning to use this in our new chick house we will build. We normally keep all the hens and chick's together so they can keep warm huddled together.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is pretty good for a small group of chicks (maybe 15 or so?). The height is adjustable, and can only be at an angle at the lowest setting. Other brands include a cover to prevent chicks from jumping on top of the device and leaving droppings in it, this one does NOT have that and it can get pretty messy.
This item does work...and works great BUT..... My chicks keep getting stuck in the elongated holes on the plastic legs on each side of the plate. One was nearly deceased. Thankfully I got to her just in time. I really feel like the designs for the legs need to be different. Now I'll be up checking the babies every hour or so to make sure they are not stuck.
I purchased this for my newly hatched chick's. I plugged it in and the light was on and it started warming uo. I moved the chick's out the incubator after they fluffed to find most of them dead and the others gasping for air. This was horrifying for my children to witness as they were so excited watching them. Ive tried contacting the company and no one has responded yet. This is so saddening and I'm filled with regret and had to explain the whole life and death scenarios with my 6 yr old. That had alreadynamed one of the chicks.
Absolutely terrible, I bought this brooder plate and used it for 1 batch of chickens and it worked fine. I went to use it for the next batch and my baby chicks were screaming up a storm despite having the plate. I felt underneath and the plate had stopped heating during the middle of the night on the 2nd day after hatching. The plate was only 2-months old. The light still turns on when plugged in, but the plate doesn't heat whatsoever. Absolutely piece of junk. If you don't want your chicks to die, don't buy it
Used to brood a gosling. Woke up in the morning to the gosling's head stuck in the long hole on the leg. Wouldn't recommend, not a safe product for animals.
