What our house was hardwired for!

Terry February 21, 2021

Found out we need to replace these every 5 yrs..10 yrs after remodel they got noises....so glad it wasnt my cooking. After ordering 6 of these, we found that the electrician had put two different models in our house on two different circuits. Called FIREX and they said they were compatible, the plug was different on the two models. With the pig tail attached, they were installed and all functions together in a test. These are great detectors...no one could sleep through these.

Easy to install and it works

Marc13T October 31, 2021

It was easy to install replacing an older existing model that went bonkers. Wiring was pretty easy and replacing the battery on this unit is much easier as you don't have to remove it to access the battery from the inside of the unit. The door just slides open. Will be replacing older aging units with this one.

Been a great product, many years, for me.

TMAZ July 25, 2025

I feel like most of you one-star reviewers probably are in desperate need of a class on Smoke Alarms. This has been an outstanding brand and model for me. In the house I've been in (for decades), we have eight of these and I have relied on three different complete sets. (YES! LESSON ONE! Smoke Alarms have a LIMITED lifespan and must be replaced!!!). Each set for me has performed exactly as advertised. FIVE STARS is truly the only rating for this product. Now.... here's your free class, people: LESSON ONE: As I said, smoke alarms is a technology that has a limited lifespan. They must be replaced. Smoke Alarms will start chirping, or otherwise alert you, when they have reached the end of their lifespan. AND THEN YOU MUST REPLACE THEM. Do them all at once. It's truly very simple. LESSON TWO: Next, if you're not changing your batteries annually, you're actually not doing what you should be doing. My reminder is my birthday. I change the alarms at my birthday. And so guess what I remember to do every year? Put fresh batteries in the smoke alarms. This is not rocket science, people. Set your birthday as the date to do a list of annual things. LESSON THREE: If your smoke alarms are running through a battery faster than you think they should be (and NO, batteries should NOT be lasting you years and years), blaming the smoke alarm should not be your first go-to. This is especially true if multiple alarms are draining batteries too fast. YOU SHOUL D BE SUSPECTING YOUR WIRING!!!! The power source is an interconnected source. In fact, my house has a separate Circuit Breaker for Smoke Alarms. Have you checked your circuit breakers???? Is power even getting to your alarms, or are they running 24x7 off of battery power??? LESSON FOUR: (This is for the complainers that they've all gone off at the same time). I hear you. I do. I had no idea smoke alarms were interconnected and was SHOCKED when this happened to me. When ONE ALARM goes faulty in the interconnected set of alarms, THEY ALL GO OFF. It's truly terrible. I think that having the alarms be interconnected in a house is foolish. I can hear the alarm going off at the other end of the house, and so I do NOT need them ALL blaring at me. But here's the good news, please. READ THE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS: It is a simple piece of cake to switch each alarm so that they are NOT interconnected. I know interconnected versus independent is up for opinion. I get it. But I will never install interconnected smoke alarms, ESPECIALLY in a one-story property where I'm sure to hear other alarms. I do NOT need to ever again hear them all going off when it's just one of them that's got something to say. Save yourself the headache, and save the manufacturer your poor review simply because you don't like what happened.

Good transaction

Bill December 11, 2021

This was a direct replacement for my 10-yr old FIREX alarms. I did not have to change out the alarm mounts or wiring harness. So far alarms work just fine. Price was right and delivered ahead of estimated delivery date. Thank you.

Would buy again from ZORO

Guest May 22, 2017

These were replacements for two existing alarms in our home. Could not stop these two from chirping. Pigtails and new connection included. A very simple change. ZORO had a very good price and delivery was fast.

FIREX i4618 Smoke Alarm: Easy Installation

Brian April 16, 2020

This was purchased as a replacement for the same model. The installation and use directions were very easy to understand and it even came with the recommended battery. I am very pleased with this product and would highly recommend it.

Direct replacement for Firex with included adapter

JohnAZ August 25, 2017

My Firex units timed out in our 11 year old house. All 5 started chirping within a few months of each other. These units at Wal-mart were almost direct replacements. I used the included adapter so my old wiring plugged into the new units. The only thing I had to do was remove the old base plate and install the new one (a 5 minute job with just a screw driver). I did have to find some A/C wired CO detectors at a different retailer, but it all worked out.

Returned one , now another is acting up

Rich December 8, 2020

Bought 4 had to return one that would go off randomly. Now another one will chirp once 2 or 3 times a week, not impressed , seriously doubt any will last the advertised 10 years

Good product but late delivery

Thomas July 27, 2021

The product was the AC model but not noted in the product description. It also arrived late. I ordered from Walmart as it was faster than Amazon. However, it was not faster. The product is a good unit.

Everything was great for about 5 years, then...

PLE1 July 7, 2023

I bought these alarms about 5 years ago and they have been trouble free. Then I started getting some chirps. I tested the batteries, and they showed overcharged. I'm realizing now that I got way more useful battery life than I should have expected. One of the batteries went down to 0 volts after it was sitting in my drawer for a while. So, it seems as though the battery reports as OK on a tester when in fact it is dead. Very odd. So last night, in the middle of the night, 1:30AM to be exact, all of my alarms go off by themselves and stop on their own after a couple of loud alarms. I check the alarm that is red, and the battery shows 9.68 Volts. I put it back in the alarm, and it is still flashing red. I put in a fresh Duracell battery, and the light went off. And the chirping and alarms stopped. Bottom line, I can not trust these alarms anymore. I should still have 5 years left on them, but at this time, I have disabled 4 of them, and put two Duracell batteries in the other two. I have ordered some First Alert Detectors and I will give them a try. I just need to be able to have a detector that gives me the correct signal. If the battery is dead, tell me, I'll replace it. I'm not sure if this is the detector or the battery, but they are both Kidde branded, so it's one or the other. But, I'm not going to be the beta tester.
