easy to install
We installed this product in March of 2018, and now in November of 2021 the battery is dead and we need to buy a new unit. It's worked well until now (although we haven't had any fires, so that part hasn't really been tested) but I'm frustrated that the unit needs to be replaced so soon.
I bought this in 2019 and it's failed in 2025, 4 years before it's supposed to be end of life. I have read the other reviews and hours too went off in the middle of the night without any reason. Checked the whole house, there was no fire checked outside, there was no fire. The alarm stopped by itself and I tried to go back to bed. And then a few minutes later it goes off again and now there is no way to make it go quiet. The push to hush button doesn't work and it just keeps going so it's clear that this alarm is malfunctioning. Try to use the directions on the back where it says you can turn this. Dial counter clockwise to get it to stop and break a seal and break a tab underneath it to make it stop if nothing worked so I ended up taking a kitchen knife and prying it open to get the battery out and make it stop. FYI. It's a Panasonic lithium ion battery model number 9ez8, cr-2/3az. The battery itself shows no signs of swelling. Called customer care and they replaced this combination with a new one that will come in the mail in the next two weeks.
I bought this unit in May 2020 and now on December 2021 had a false alarm at 3:25 am and would not shut off. First said fire then carbon monoxide then fire each time after that. I took it down and tried the disabling instructions on back. What a joke. Finally pried the top off with a screwdriver and cut the wires inside. There isn't any dust, dirt or insect inside the unit. Just a malfunctioning produce. Read the other reviews on this piece of junk. Thanks for nothing, Kidde.
Bought 7 units. First one I installed, seemed to be ok, but within a few minutes of turning power back on, and pressing the button to test, the green light started flashing, a chirp every 60 seconds followed by "Low battery". Unbelievable. I looked all over the case for a date of manufacture, nothing. Absolutely avoid this product! I had read several other reviews on another site that units arrived with dead batteries. I used to swear by Kidde, but I guess no more.
I do day care so need to have alarms. I got these so I would not have to change batteries. We are on the 2nd one in less than 6 months that go off and then can't shut them off. No smoke or anything to set it off. Cleaned with an air compressor and still going off! Thought I was saving money with these but now I have to go buy more, as I am a Child Care Provider and need to have them. I have more that I just know will do the same thing.
These were initially installed in Jan 2023 and then false alarm in Feb. I had electrician replace. Now the alarm went off again. I am totally disgusted. This product should be recalled! I am elderly. Are you going to pay for an electrician to replace?
The date on the kidde P3010CU alarm that I have is 8/22/2020. I finally had to take it off and deactivate it, at least i tried. The tab broke but the arrow wheel would not turn. Very disappointed. I will order a replacement and give it one more chance.
One of ours repeatedly alerted for absolutely no reason in the middle of the night when there were no issues (we diligently checked everything). And NONE of ours alerted when my daughter burned food badly and the house was full of black smoke! The one near the kitchen does typically go off when we lightly burn toast but even it did not go off for the *actual* black smoke.
Moved into my house a year ago and the alarms just now started screaming fire when there was none, personally could not get it to shut off and I had to break it to shut it off.
