We got this Kitchen set for our kids for Christmas (2009). It is still played with almost every day and is holding up very well! There were a lot of pieces and it did take a while to put together like you should expect with any kitchen set, but it is sturdy and a lot of fun! It has so many features and the kids really love it. My kids are now 7, 5, and 2 and they all still enjoy playing with it. We have had a few problems. A couple door latches and one of the oven knob connectors have broken. They are just cheap plastic and didn't last long with heavy play. They still enjoy it and it works fine even with the broken latches. I plan on replacing them with higher quality latches from our local building supply store. The photos show the set after over a year of use.
I bought this kitchen for my daughters, who are both under the age of 4. It is a great product! Very sturdy, very colorful, and a great size for the 2 of them to play together. It's not too tall for my little one (under 2 years) and not too small for my "big girl", almost 4. The clip that holds the oven door closed was broken in shipping, but I called KidKraft and they mailed 3 replacements, which I received in about a week. Great customer service, great product!
Assembly info: It took 1 person about 2 hours to assemble. The pieces, including the screws and bolts, were very well labeled and organized. The kitchen itself: Countertop is 19 3/4" from the floor. Kitchen is primarily MDF wood with some plastic (handles, knobs, faucet, sink bowl, water dispenser & phone). The chalkboard is real. The sink bowl can come out but there are 2 latch pieces underneath to keep it attached to the kitchen. Wal-Mart had the best price including the shipping cost. Two kids can easily play together at the kitchen. There are cabinets to store the food out of sight and counter space for kids to prep food. I'm happy this kitchen does not make any noises because I wanted the kids to creatively come up with their own. Overall, I think this is a great toy. The kids have been playing with it every day.
This kitchen is very well made, and my two-year-old daughter loves it! It was time consuming to assemble, but with the quality that it's made, I don't mind that part. The colors are bright and the features are very realistic! You will be very satisfied with this product!
I didn't have any problems with assembly or quality. The colors are great. The size works perfectly for my 2 little ones (age 3 and 5). This is not made from particle board. It's really steady and sturdy and my kids have been cooking and baking up a storm. My older daughter still has her KidKraft dollhouse after 4 years of use and it's in really good condition - I'm a loyal KidKraft buyer - I know their quality is great and I know my kids will be playing with this colorful kitchen for a long time. Thanks Walmart for having a great KidKraft selection!
I purchased a kitchen set from the same company and other than a few upgrades in appearance and color change, I believe my kitchen set is cut from the same cloth. The "Wooden" structure is actually particle board, which has caused one major problem for me. If a door is opened too far, the board splits in a way that makes repairs near impossible. I have one door left on, and will not be able to repair the other doors. It is a very nice and heavy set. The knobs did turn and click, but now they don't. It is very easy to clean and fun for the kids. They love it with or without the doors and it is the most life-like kitchen out there, which is what my kids prefer. I hope this newer model has a better door design or use better wood, but otherwise, for a little kid this is quite a fun purchase.
Took me the 4 hours that most earlier reviewers had predicted. But the scream of delight when my child saw the finished product was worth it! There are a number of accesories that one can buy for this product - like pots/pans and veggies and food etc. So we could put them on his wishlist. Tips: 1. You may want to consider not installing the back-board until you have finished screwing in the fronts for the dishwasher, oven and washing-machine for ease of access. 2. All parts are numbered but it helps to not blindly follow them. I think I got the knobs wrong for my appliances in the end. It seems like the person who wrote the instructions never put it together himself. 3. Impossible to keep the screws organized while still reading which kind each one is. 4. The holes for screwing in the white plastic snaps for the doors needed widening with a bigger screw before I could install the ones meant for it -- its about the time when you begin to lose it and regret having bought this thing. 5. Keep a color picture of the product in fron of you for reference. The manual has b/w pic which is less helpful.
This is a wonderful value and it truly is a high quality wood toy for the price. Much better than the plastic models out there. My only complaint is ASSEMBLY! AHHHHH! It took us a little over 3 hours. The directions were clear and concise, however, there were some pretty small spaces to work in. My suggestion is to unwrap EVERYTHING first and put each piece in number order. Keep the color picture nearby (directions are in black and white) and separate the screws and brackets into cups or something labled with the letter. If you keep them in the plastic case and open up the back, you don't know what you are looking for! Make sure your Phillips head screwdriver has a short handle...and do what someone else posted and don't put the backs on until AFTER you put on the doors. Oh, and BTW you definitely need 2 people to put this together. For those of you that were able to do it solo, you are gifted beyond words! After all this, I have to say the finish product was WELL worth it and the kids have been occupied for hours! Good luck!
We bought this kitchen set for Christmas for my 3 1/2 year old son (my 1 year old also plays with it). It took a few hours to put together but the instructions are easy to follow. It's made of good solid wood material, probably MDF, but still sturdy. The door to the washing machine broke off already, but we're going to glue it back on. Overall, a very good product. I wanted a wooden set because I have 2 boys that can be so rough. Plastic just wouldn't last.
It's a very nice kitchen for the kids but it's has too many separate parts to screw and assemble... M's screws should be selfscrews
