Immediate gains
My 2006 Ford F-150 (4.6L V8) showed immediate response to K&N cold air intake installation. Tachometer indicated significant RPM reduction. Noticeable increased power factor. Engine now produces a perceptible "growl" -- not overly so, but it's there. I've not yet had a chance to check on fuel consumption, but I am confident this machine will require less fuel going forward.

Great but expensive
I purchased this intake for 3 reasons: for the sounds, to not have to change paper filters anymore, and to hopefully gain a little bit of power. My truck is running a bit rich, and sometimes I have to drop a gear going up certain hills when it seems like I shouldn't have to. I paired this intake with a flowmaster fx muffler, and now my truck sounds awesome at 3500 rpm. In addition to this, I am able to chug up some hills without needing to drop a gear like I used to. I have no official numbers for the power of my truck, but it definitely feels like I've gained ~5 hp. My fuel economy seems unaffected so far. Overall, the quality of the parts are great, but I am a bit curious as to why it's so expensive. Regardless, I bought this part aware of the price, and have had no disappointments.
