5 Star Review

Jesus January 30, 2019

Installation was a breeze with the provided instructions. I previously had flow masters on my truck but the cold air intake. Made it sound a lot better. Power was also noticeable instantly. It wasn't extravagant but without a doubt noticeable. Very satisfied customer!!

My only complaint was that it took two days to process before it was shipped out otherwise it arrived when it was supposed to. It was a breeze to install in my truck. Definitely sounds better. I haven't used it enough yet to see if I'm getting better mileage or not.

This product was exactly what I was looking for in terms of durability and also gained a few MPG. Plus you can actually hear the motor now. Normal driving sounds the same as before but when you get on the gas you sure can hear that big V8 growl that a lot of people like to hear. Overall very happy with the product that K&N is making here. Just remember to put the MAF in the right direction.

I purchased this kit for my 2008 Ford F-150. I was stationed at Fort Wainwright, Alaska and was about to move to Fort Campbell, Kentucky with my family and our 27' travel trailer. I was hoping to get more power and better gas mileage out of my truck for the 4100 mile trip and was not disappointed. Installation was very easy with the provided instructions. The kit even saved a few pounds from the factory intake. The power gain was instantly noticeable. The deeper, throatier sound of the air being drawn into the engine was a clear indicator of the effectiveness of the intake system, not to mention the jump in throttle response at the slightest tap of the gas pedal. The biggest qualifier of this product living up to it's hype and advertisement was how much better the truck was able to plow up a hill with the trailer attached. At my truck's max gross weight, we were able to make the long trip through Canada's arctic Rockies and over the widely varying terrain of the central US. As a bonus, the intake system reduced the number of parts and pieces in the way when the truck was ready for a tune-up, negating the necessity to remove the intake to get to all the plugs and wires. After this evaluation of the product, I will be purchasing similar K&N products for all of our future vehicle purchases.

This is a great product and made a great difference in the performance of my F150. I used the step by step instructions online and had no problems. Also K&N should put an O Ring in the kit for the intake manifold throat for the throttle body. Reason why, the new K&N throttle body adapter isn't flat on the bottom and has seems where it was molded from factory, I had to resurface the bottom of the adapter so it would make a good seal.

I defiantly recommend this intake on your vehicle!

Bigsky February 11, 2025

Purchased this intake online after reading all the reviews, Installation was straight forward, easy DIY project. It is loader in the cab, but mostly only at wide open throttle, I personally like the sound of a V-8 rumble. Intown fuel economy was unchanged, my highway mileage increased by 1.2 mpg, not towing, with everything else stock. Rear wheel power defiantly increased as well as throttle response. I then added a BBK 80mm Throttle Body, and saw another impressive gain with this combination, city MPG no change, Highway MPG +2.0 average over 3 trips in mountainous driving, and Pickup no longer shifts out of overdrive on long pulls with no trailer. I am now adding a 3' cat back, 3" in x 3" dual out flowmaster exhaust system, cam phaser lockout and STC custom tune to make it all work properly together. Will post results as I get results over time.

Last week I installed the 63 Series Gen II FIPK in my 2004 F-150 4x4 5.4L 3V Lariat and I have been raving about it ever since, so I figured I would let you guys know as well. It sounds great for a bonus, but the real deal is the definite difference in acceleration, and more importantly, improved towing. I just towed my boat for the first time 180 miles roundtrip, and where I could never use o/d due to constant rpm revving, since installing the FIPK, I literally don't notice the boat behind me with o/d on, as the rpm's never had to rev up. Great product and I have told all my Ford truck owning friends! Oh, and did I mention a 5 mpg improvement on highway driving?

Good directions on instillation. Easy to install. Doesn't take too long. Very satisfied with results. More torque and power. And better gas mileage.

Very well engineered and easy to install except for the fact that any work under the hood of an F-150 requires long arms and a stand. I fumbled to disconnect the throttle body connectors, but found my Haynes manual a great help there. Also, the 2008 F-150 model apparently incorporated a change or two that weren't depicted in the K&N directions (eg, heater control valve on water line), but that was easy enough to figure out, too. Under wide open throttle it does allow huge intake noise, but once I got used to that, the driving experience is improved (I seldom open the throttle all the way). I'm already seeing a mileage improvement. I would give this a 4.8 star rating, but your star index doesn't allow fractions. I'm glad I bought it and I will likely get kits for other vehicles.

Polymer Can't Hold Up to Engine Heat

Disappointed 1 March 22, 2026

The throttle body adapter is made of black polymer and can't hold up to the top engine heat on the 5.4. Started getting an Evap leak code and heard whistling coming from the throttle body connection to the adapter plate. Turns out the brass inserts that are molded into the adapter were no longer secure. They had melted out and were creating a gap between the TB and adapter. Also, the flange plate on the TB side of the adapter does not have the strength to hold its form to make a solid, flat seal. The adapter really should have been made of aluminum. I expected the quality would have been much better from K&N. Guess these days it's all made in the same Chinese factory so name brand no longer matters. Now I'm out about $400 and have to go to the scrap yard to find a stock assembly.
