Friend told me about this product and I ordered it. It came within two days and was easy to install. I could tell that my mileage was improved with my first trip after installation.
The fix is easy and nice looking

I needed a filter so i like k&n products. Except for the air box cover . I think they should have made it easier to service.

I purchased this cold air intake kit for a 2006 Silverado LBZ Duramax truck in 2008. I'm very disappointed. I could see no towing or power difference at all. Also to take the lid off to clean and oil the filter to get the back screw out you need to unbolt the Coolant reservoir and move it out of the way. The worst part of this cold air intake kit is a tremendous amount of dirt that comes up from the openings underneath the housing to the wheel well. I bought the filter wrap for the filter to get more filtration. They are black in color. I had just cleaned and oiled the filter and washed the wrap and I noticed the truck was blowing black smoke on heavy acceleration up hills. I had thought maybe I over oiled the filter. So I took the cover off to inspect the filter and I had only driven about 50 miles all on asphalt roads after I had cleaned it. The filter wrap I had just cleaned was covered with dust already in just 50 miles. The previous time I had cleaned it there was about 4000 miles on it when I took it out to clean it. The whole interior of the air box was covered with dirt and fuzz like you find in a vacuum cleaner bag. In closing I would never purchase this intake kit again and I'm very sorry I disposed of the original air filter housing assembly. I had to buy an all new OEM air filter assembly that cost over $800 to put it back to original. Bummer!
This K&N cold air intake kit allows the filter to get extremely dirty very quickly. Like in 200 miles on asphalt roads because of where it is picking up its intake air. It pulls air from the bottom of the K&N air box which is the air on the outside of the right front wheel well housing. All of the dirt, grit and debris the right front tire kicks up gets drawn right up and into the K&N air filter element. With the K&N filter element out for cleaning you can look straight down and see the pavement. In the pictures you will see how the filter wrap looks after less than 200 miles on paved roads. Image what it would look like on gravel or dirt roads. In my 2006 Silverado Duramax it offered no power gain what so ever. Towing, horse power and torque seemed to be identical to the OEM air box and filter plus the OEM filter filters fine particles much better than the K&N oiled filters do which has been proven over and over again in tests using High Tech equipment. I reinstalled an original air filter box, filter with the original filter components and again there was absolutely no loss in horsepower or torque from the K&N cold air intake system on this Duramax LBZ engine. Obviously I could not endorse or recommend this cold air intake kit. Factory OEM air boxes on these engines get their air from the right front inner fender away from all road dirt. The factory OEM air box and filter are also rated up to 500 HP. There is no restriction with the OEM filter set up and it does take in cold air as well.
