Love this CAI, definitely worth it!
I got my 2014 Mazda 3 S 2.5 in April and immediately replaced the paper filter with a K&N filter. However I had been thinking of replacing the intake with a High Performance Intake unit. I checked with the Service Manager at my dealer to see if there would be any warranty issues. He said that it would not impact any warranty coverage (although he suggested that I could replace the K&N unit with the original air intake if there was a factory recall on the fuel system). I found this kit really easy to install. The photo instructions were well detailed and easy to follow. I was amazed at the length of the original factory unit. From the 5 inch slot opening it takes a 90 degree turn, goes down 20 inches into the fenderwell, does a 180 and goes back up another 20 inches to the bottom of the airbox. The K&N unit occupies the same space as the factory airbox and is a short 12 inch run to the engine. As I said it was an easy, follow the step/photo installation. The use of the factory air sensor meant there was no recalibration or special tuning required. I just started the engine, checked all of the fittings and clamps to be sure there was no leakage, shut the hood, took a short test drive and it was good to go. You can easily feel the performance increase, especially with the 2.5 liter engine's automatic in sport mode. My brother, who used to sell Mazdas, drove the car before the upgrade and after. He agreed that the performance increase was very noticeable. Plus we both found the very deep intake growl (most noticeable in the Sport mode) to be a blast. It can be intrusive, but isn't anywhere as noticeable when your driving in the normal mode, so this isn't an issue for me. I stopped at my dealer and 3 of the salesmen wanted to see and hear the KN Typhoon. They all loved it and they plan to talk to the Parts Manager about making the kit something that he offers rather than the current I can get one for you which is what he told me when I asked about K&N products. I wanted the kit right away so I checked availability at the O'Reilly Auto store's website (very big in Minnesota). They listed a K&N Typhoon kit. However when I checked with the K&N website the part number they had listed was shown by K&N as for the 2004-2012 Toyota Corolla. So if you want to get a Typhoon kit through your local dealer, be sure to go to the K&N site first to be sure that you get the correct part number. All in all I can highly recommend both the K&N Typhoon Performance kit and ordering directly from K&N. Both exceeded my expectations.
Product is outstanding! It is designed for a Mazda 6, but I made it fit in my 2021 Mazda 3 2.5 S Manual Transmission. By make it fit, I ran that I was not able to use the specified mount using the CPU mounting bolt. I had to make my own and raise the assembly slightly to clear the shift linkage mechanism directly underneath. Directions were great, clearly labeled and easy to follow. Parts are great quality and the sound is impressive. Highly recommend
Installation was a breeze. Took me about half an hour. I am impressed with the quality of the construction. Performance improvement has been noticable as I accelerate onto the highway. I've also picked up about 0.2 MPG according to the instrument panel, during the week I've been driving with it. I really like the increased engine noise. It's enough to let you know that you are accelarating, but not obnoxiously so.
My intake was assembled with k-n parts off the internet buying the kit would be easier but my point is the whole thing combines to make a excellent system. I can feel and hear a marked improvement
5 Star Review
The filter arrived incomplete, I wrote at the seller but they don't answer.
