What a great set of K'NEX. Roller-coasters are always a fun thing to watch and play with. There are many parts so make sure that little children do not have access to them. The pieces are smaller than the regular K'NEX sets so these won't exactly work as an add on set, but would still be fun to make things. This set came in a cardboard box and plastic bags. It would have been nice to have resealable bags or a plastic box to store all of the parts. It came with a very detailed booklet to make the project intended. K'NEX are great for the very imaginative mind. The possibilities are endless when time and space are available. My children have really enjoyed playing with K'NEX for many years and we just have 2 sets with no intended project, but with this set it just makes it funner and better to be able to make something bigger and with battery moving parts. I am sure there will be hours of fun with this set and the others we have already.
Our youngest Grand-son had a similar, but smaller version of this and plays with it constantly. We will be giving it to him for Christmas and are sure he will be entertained by it for quite a while. I am amazed by the quality of it.
This building set is made by K'NEX which makes some pretty impressive kits for children of all ages, including "kids" that are parental age or older! I am a grandparent and this particular set is fun to build and see working and children enjoy the experience also. There are over 640 pieces to this kit including a small electric motor that is battery operated and with a chain system pulls the coaster to the top of the almost three foot high structure to begin its' downward adventure. The instruction booklet that comes with the kit has around 30 pages of step by step easy to follow instructions, with picture diagrams and color coded plastic pieces that make it easier to assemble. You could assemble the set in one sitting but I found it more relaxing to take a break once in awhile to make the experience fun for both the child and me and both of us were actually looking forward to the next session instead of wondering if we were ever going to get it built by trying to do it all at once. And when we were done it was more than amazing to see it perform! It's not rocket science but to build something that does have moving parts and share that with a child is a great feeling of satisfaction. It is made for children nine years or older but I feel an adults input might be helpful to maintain a relaxed attitude and patience, and that all depends on the maturity level of whoever is building the set, whether adult or child! All in all a fun project but if you have small children nearby while building the set watch out, as there are many small pieces that they could accidentally swallow.
Nephew loves it plus it gets him off the tablet
My son has had one of these k'nex roller coasters before, the one thing i don't like is how time consuming it is to put together. It took me a good 2 or 3 hours to put it together from the time i got it out of the box, until the time i was finished. You also have to pay very close attention to the directions and i would set all parts out and have them sectioned off ahead of time. It just makes it easier on the person putting it together. Besides that i honestly love the thing and so do my children. They could sit there for hours and watch it over and over again, there is also a few different ways it can be built so it's not the same thing over and over again but i don't know how much i'd want to go back and rebuild it. It will keep any kid and adults entertained too, it's a nice project to do at home with the kids. I don't see any flaws besides i'd probably set it in one place and wouldn't move it just to make sure nothing comes apart. (this was sent to me for review, all opinions are my own.)
I chose this specifically for my twin Granddaughter’s. I am a firm believer in encouraging girls to become involved in anything that they would like and to encourage their love of Math & Science. This product came with several pieces but also possibilities that they could create anything. We instructed them to follow the direction and complete the coaster as designed before they started experimenting with other designs just so they would have a foundation to build on. They loved doing this together and discussing how to place one item or another. Since they are 9 year old we thought this would be perfect for them especially now during the Christmas break since we want to encourage their creativity and they are creative. I asked them how they liked it and they said they were having fun with it and would like to work on other k’nex projects. What they don’t know if I have another being planned out now. It was just over 2ft tall when completed and they have asked me to download the next set of instruction to create the other coaster that can be made with these pieces. I’m hoping they figure out how to use more than one set together to build something all their own.
Building this roller coaster will provide hours of fun! There are A LOT of pieces, too many I would expect for the average child. I would recommend this for a child 10 years or older with parents who are willing to help if needed. Also fun for the parents to build, but a bit tedious with over 160 pieces in total. We are still working on it, so I do not have a final picture.
The K'NEX Thrill Rides Typhoon Frenzy Roller-Coaster Building Set is a neat toy, but not for everyone. It is complicated to put to gather with many small pieces and pictorial instructions. It will take you several days and several sessions during those days to assemble. The instructions pictures can be difficult to see without a magnifying glass, as some pictures of parts look very similar. It is useful to have some tape available to hold parts together as you assemble other parts the Roller Coaster to the parts you have already finished. Once it is together the tape may still be needed as it is used it will try to come apart in places. Once running it is interesting to watch. If you take it apart keep track of all the pieces. I used zip lock bags to keep them separated and together. It would get a higher score if the instructions were clearer and the parts would stay connected better.
I had just saw this product being highly recommended on one of my favorite talk shows. The entire audience was given one for the holiday give away. So, I decided to get this toy for my fourteen year of twin daughters. It looked VERY cool on t.v. When I got this product my girls seem to be excited about it. They took it to the family room and sat down on the floor and started reading the directions. About ten minutes after they started to read the instructions they brought it to my husband to ask him what they were supposed to do. My husband looked over the instruction and saw that they were completely pictures/illustrations, very few words. The girls were confused with those illustrated instructions. My husband felt he had no trouble with these types of instructions, because he has been building things for years. However, he thought these types of instructions for someone that has not had a lot of experience with building things would be rather challenged by this. The girls worked on this set together for a couple of hours and decided it was way to complicated for them. I think this set would be great for a child that you know is very good with his or her hands.
received this item from the Walmart Spark Review Program for no compensation - just an honest review. Me and my 2 sons (8 & 10) tried putting this toy together over the course of a weekend, Friday – Sunday. I’d imagine we had about 6 hours in it, with 1-3 of us working on it at a time. My 10 year old son is really good at putting together Lego system sets – including the police and fire station big ones – and after 2 hours of work on Friday night he gave up – completely – with only about ¼ of the set built. Sunday afternoon I started in on it, and my 10 year old helped, and my 8 year old was adept at piecing the green track together as me and the 10 yr old could quite get it done. A few things about this – it should be labeled MINI K’NEX – because – 99.5% of the pieces are mini pieces – not the ordinary K’nex you might be used to. Additionally – the instructions and diagrams really stink. Most of the time the color of the pieces is plain old incorrect (white is actually clear, red is actually orange, etc.). Furthermore – there aren’t enough pictures/diagrams of the pieces from different angles to actually figure out what is going on. My only recommendation is to situate the large piece you are working on exactly as pictured to try to figure out what to do. The gray connecters and blue ones that slide together are especially tough to grasp – as well as the connectors that slide through the green track – and under the black chain guides. Once we finally got it all together – we gave it a try – and the chain came apart. Once we fixed that – we noticed several places that were wrong – that didn’t have enough clearance – and several places we just had to improvise fixes for. One green track piece at the bottom actually twists upside down when installed – or you’ll never make it back to the chain drive! Once I rigged it all to finally complete a lap – we had continued problems with pieces coming loose with the rail car passing over it just once. My wife’s comments summed it up best – all that work and that’s all it does?!?! You don’t get much thrill from it working after you’ve seen it a couple of times! Not like Lego’s that have little people you can play with and have adventures with. Long and short – not worth the time, money, or effort as there is very little reward to be had by getting it built! I would only recommend it for experienced K’nex builders over the age of 12+, definitely not 10 or younger!
