Super dense, just a hint of sweet, and moist (as long as you dont over bake it)!!! I LOVE how dense it is! If you like fluffy cornbread, this is not the one for you. It's pricey, but you get over 3 times the protein in each serving than the other brands.
Cornbread with protein added off the perfect way to get enough protein in my meal. It tasted great and made a large batch. I am going to make it again and will add Sony of My favorite mix ins like peppers and cheese. Perfect as a side with anything.
Never tried to cook as cornbread. I cooked these as pancakes and liked it though the batter is hard to get consistency (usually runny so thin pancakes and a little hard/dense). Then I tried the buttermilk flavor which I really love so buy those instead if you want pancakes.
As with many whole foods products, this is intended as a healthy alternative to what is normally an unhealthy snack or appetizer. This means that you are sacrificing the consistency, "fluffiness" and -- to some extent -- flavor (inasmuch as whole grains are not pure starch and have their own flavor, so you are tasting more than what you add to them) you would normally expect from a more heavily refined and processed commercial product in favor of something healthier. As "dense" as these may be to someone not used to whole grains (I've been a whole foods shopper for a good 35 years now), I actually buy them as fluffier alternative to the cornbread I make from scratch, since I never use any leavening agents when baking. If I had complaint about this product, it would actually be that as a long time whole foods shopper, I'd prefer it be more whole; made with a whole sweetener (i.e., honey or evaporated sugar cane juice) instead of refined/white sugar.
I figured this box of mix would make several small pans of cornbread, so I was shocked to find it only makes ONE 9 X 9 pan. The cornbread is ok...but would be much better with some jalapeno and cheese, or sugar and corn.
Received order and expiration date is with. Few months
These muffins were baked exactly per the directions and what a fail they were! I wish I had read other reviews stating they were too sense. That is such an understatement. That's a kind way of saying, they are so heavy they will hit your stomach like a ton of bricks. If you like eating, heavy paper weight type muffins and being weighed down after eating only half a muffin, buy these. But they are not flavorful and definitely not satisfying. The worst cornbread I have ever had!
I bought this, hoping it would be a great vehicle for protein for my corn muffin-loving family. My kids can be picky, but even my wife and I had to concur that these were pretty yucky. They didn't have much flavor, and the texture was unappealing. Won't be getting these again.
taste horrible. Bread is not fluffy after cooked. I followed the directions on the box. Muffins did not rise very well and are very tough and tasteless
This is not a traditional type cornbread. If you're raised on southern cornbread, this is not for you. It has the consistency of fruitcake…
