A great knife to have in any home cook's lineup. The second you hold it in your hand you get a feel for its unbelievable weight and balance, both in the handle and through the blade. The handle feels very good in the hand, it grips well and feels comfortable after hours of slicing and dicing. It's almost like an extension of your arm. This knife's blade holds it's edge like no other knife I have used before. An absolute pleasure to use, no matter the task. You will get decades of use out of this knife if cared for properly.
I found myself grabbing the 7in more frequently than the 8in in the previous knife set I had. With that in mind, I decided to start this collection with the 7in Santoku. The knife is super balanced. The bulbous handle promotes a proper grip while cutting. The shape of the blade also gives you the advantage of the rocking motion for cutting finely. There is also a slight undercut just under the bolster. This is very necessary for extensive prep times. It definitely will save your fingers from rubbing against the blade. The knife is razor sharp out of the box. With the hardness of the steel (63 HRC), the edge will keep for a long time. One of the biggest selling points for me was that the blade is stainless steel. This blade will be a little bit more forgiving with corrosion compared to a carbon steel blade, for example. Great care still must be used, you cannot throw this blade in the dishwasher. Overall, the construction of the knife matches the price point. This knife will take care of you for a long time if you take care of it. I would recommend this knife for home cooks who are ready to elevate their collection, and collectors who are looking for something new!
My favorite knife. Use nearly every night. Wonderful ergonomics and craftsmanship.
It's a little heavier than the one I used before, but the sharpness is incredible.
Awesome geometry and cutting physics. Steel quality is amazing.
This knife is one of the most beautiful knives I've ever seen. I am a vegetarian and I find myself reaching for this knife over my chef's knife more often because I find it get through the vegetables very easily. The handle fits well in my hand and the blade has a gorgeous chevron design.
The first attraction is the big, meaty handle made out of Micarta; no need to worry about shrinking or wear with the linen resin mixture. The blade is simply stunning with the 100 layers so beautiful and wide. It can handle any task you throw it's way. They use SG2 steel which is incredibly hard and will result in a knife that's going to stay sharp and be easy to maintain.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is my second Zwilling KRAMER and it is so comfortable in my hand. It cuts like a dream. This isn't just professional grade it's TOP professional grade. Last but not least, the beautiful Damascus steel and Micarta handle.
I have followed Bob Kramer for quite some time. So excited to finally own my own. It is unique. Wider blade and substantial handle in my hand. The damascus detail is amazing. The sharpness doesn't compare to any knife I've ever owned. Certainly an investment, but worth it.
This knife was great when it was brand new but after a year of use I don't recommend it, it's way to expensive for what it is. I have very small micro chips coming off the cutting edge. I don't think there's anything I can do to prevent it from happening
