I have had the SILVER Leafing Pen for some time now and have used it to touch up frames. It looks incredibly like real metal when applied. One can also quickly smear or rag it around a bit for a special effect but it does dry quickly. Turpentine will remove it before it dries. Before I store it, I do dip the tip down in artist's grad turpentine (or an odorless solvent) and it's ready to go the next time around. The package does need to state that it should be stored horizontally. It seems to store best this way as opposed to being stored on one end or the other. [Note to web designer. I usually dont write reviews.. like ever. But I couldnt help myself especially since I saw 3.5/5 star reviews on this.... this is the best painting pen I own.. I buy them all the time and I love them. They leave a beautiful color and they dont rub off. They are a bit pricey but they are definitely worth every penny. I give 10/5 stars.
I use the gold leafing pen in a lot of my art projects. The quality, shine and color is perfect. I've tried a number of gold markers and this is by far my all time favorite.
Beautiful color, easy application. It does dry out if you don't use it frequently. Here's how I deal with that: - Store it upside-down - When it dries out, I shake it vigorously in several sessions until I hear the medium moving around freely in the pen. - I soak the tip in 90% isopropyl. This should free up the nib and get it moving again. For a pen I hadn't used in about 3 or 4 years, a 15 minute soak was enough. - Work the pen on scrap material (paper, whatever) until the medium starts flowing. This has never failed to revive a dried-out pen for me. I sure wish they still made the copper one!
Product works great, but as indicated by the comments here in, it is a one time use item. That is, if used consistently until the paint is gone, then that is fine, but you can't let it sit for an extended period, because it is likely to dry out. That said, the support person said you could soak the tip (pull it out first) in acetone. I used MEK and it dissolved the hardened paint and I was able to reuse it. However, in the process of squeezing it to get the MEK into the threads of the tip you will spread the threads and the tip will no longer be sharp. It will be usable though. Why they can't put a warning and an extra tip in the package is a question.
I LOVED IT! BUT ONE MONTH LATER I WANTED TO USE IT AGAIN AND IT WAS COMPLETELY DRY. IT'S TOO EXPENSIVE FOR ONLY ONE TIME.. ANY RECOMMENDATION?
I've had a couple of these now and if nib replacements were available it would be great. They dry out even when sealed. Normally lucky to get a couple of uses out of it then it's basically for the bin. Over the years I've tried to find a nib that can fit and work but I've tried so many I've given up. Shame as the paint is amazing when it works and it's a shade I really enjoy using. But I'd say don't buy unless u are planning on using it only once as the nib will dry out and u will not be able to recover it or buy a replacement nib.
I've used this pen once and it cost me so much, only for the nib to have completely dried out and refuses to allow the liquid to flow. Look at photos for references with how it works after my second attempt at using it. So annoyed. Will never buy from this brand again.
LOVE this pen. BUT. For the price, it should be good for more than a single use. Maybe it works fine if used constantly until the ink runs out. Problem is, once it is put away for any amount of time, the tip dries out and no amount of pumping, reversing will bring it back to life. I even ordered extra tips. Same thing. Too bad because it IS GORGEOUS.
