I recently purchased 2 of these SmartCode locks and installed one on my front door and one on a side door into the garage. The installation was pretty simple and straightforward on the door that previously had a dead bolt. The other door required preparation as it had not had a deadbolt. That was pretty simple also because I had the necessary tools and templates to prepare the door. The programming and rekeying of the locks was fairly simple, however, I cannot over emphasize the importance of following the instructions EXACTLY I enjoy the convenience of being able to lock and unlock the doors without a key. I highly recommend these locks..
Bought in early December and installed it myself. Instructions need to add information that if you want numbers to light up at night when you entering, you need to push the lock button first.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Re-write the instructions to show how to remove the battery pack. Instructions are poor showing this step. Otherwise a great product.
Installed two months ago and worked great on our side gate. Unfortunately did not realize its an indoor lock, and with our torrential winter rains, the keypad stopped working, although the lock button still worked to electronically close after manually opening. Now that it dried out a week, it works again. Since it never claimed to be waterproof, advise using a rain shield for outdoor installations, or for covered doorways.
love it. no more keys to worry about . much easier for others that might need entry like family members or workmen doing work. can always change the code and perfectly safe. Really nice for emergencies when there is no key. I installed on on my elderly mom's door so when her CNA comes to help her if she doesn't answer she can go in without waiting in case of emergency.
I bought the lock set at Home Depot, brand new and sealed. I got the lock home, disassembled my broken lock, installed the new one all the way up until I find that I'm missing all 3 of the tiny bolts that hold the interior facia to the door. Never came in the package. So now I have to figure out how to find these tiny extremely short bolts to get my lock to stay on the door. How do you NOT put the most important things in the box??
Halfway through install I realized that the turnpeice shaft on the interior assembly had been put in upside down in the factory, meaning that the lock could not be installed. Right now my opinion of quickset products is pretty low but I am really interested to see how they handle replacement of the defective part. As long as they fix the issue I think the lock should work out well, but I have to wait and see (plus its pretty aggravating taking out the old lock, putting in half of the new lock, and then having to put the old lock right back in)
The engineers who designed this don't have one of these at their house! Reason is- the back lighting does not turn on when you enter the code! So- imagine this- you are trying to enter the code- but you cannot even read the numbers! What is super dumb about this is- the lock has a light - but the numbers only illuminate when after you lock it (turns green) to tell you it is locked. But- the numbers do not illuminate when you are entering the code- which is very difficult to do at night!
I have had this keyless lock since Dec 2020, about a year and half. During this time, the batteries have died every 1-2 months. The batteries die unexpectedly, so I cannot truly go keyless because I will find myself locked out. I have followed all of the recommendations to get the best battery life. The manufacturer says batteries should last at least a year; this is completely inaccurate. I do not recommend this product if you want a keyless lock that you can depend on.
I purchased this deadbolt approximately 2 years ago. Installation was straightforward and the deadbolt functioned well until this week, when the deadbolt would not engage and move when using the electronic lock button or and entry code. The device will make a low grinding sound, but nothing moves. Key use works, though not as well as before as the lock sometimes hits a sticking point before extra torque will turn it in or out by key. I have reviewed all Kwikset info for troubleshooting, as well as other sources. After troubleshooting with a battery change, rehanding, checking the clutch, all alignment, mounting tension, and a complete reset and reinstall, still no fix. On further inspection, it appears that the internal gear that moves the bolt when using the electronic mechanism have seized or stopped connecting or are somehow not engaging at the teeth (they are plastic). Overall very disappointed with this deadbolt that has received light use for two years.
