My friend had an electronic door lock and the guest access is random and cannot be created by the administrator. What a deal breaker. This has a fast interface. The app opens fast and unlocks instantly. Good job. Notification are sent to the phone on who accessed the lock and when the battery is low. Response with Google home is slow. It may be the pod itself.
This is the 3rd Halo lock I have bought. I have on house and rental property. They work well and the ease of setup, with clear directions, are wonderful. The app works great also and is very easy to use for one or multiple properties / doors
I installed this lock exactly two years ago and I love it. Easy installation if you are replacing an existing deadbolt (i.e. there is an existing hole in the door). Easy to set up the software interface with an iPhone and Google Home (I use both). Lock has worked flawlessly for two years, locally and remotely. As secure as any consumer deadbolt. Love that it has a smart keyhole that easily can be rekeyed by the homeowner to work with existing Kwikset keys - serves as a backup or for continued acess for legacy key holders. Easy to assign or remove codes and apply custom limits on each code (e.g. anytime, or certain days/times, one time or repeating). Battery life is adequate but not great (lasts a few months), but another plus is that it uses standard AA batteries so there's no need to stock exotic batteries.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We are very pleased with Kwikset's Halo Wi-Fi Enabled Smart Lock. The installation wasn't overly complicated and the sleek satin nickel design looks very smart. We like being able to lock/unlock our door using our phones and I'm sure we'll use the code access for family members. It does come with keys (for ease of mind)
I bought the Kwikset Halo keypad deadbolt at the end of July 2024. Installation wasn't the easiest, but I managed it on my own in about an hour. The trickiest part was getting the Bluetooth pairing to work. I've had very few issues with the lock since installation. I think I've replaced the batteries only 3 or 4 times thus far, but I make sure to use name-brand Duracell batteries. They seem to give the best bang for my buck. The most frustrating issue that seems to recur every few months is that I have to repair my lock with my phone Bluetooth. Not a dealbreaker, but still frustrating. Overall, if given the choice, I would still purchase this lock. The ease of setting up new codes & sharing access in the app is a big selling point for me. However, the Kwikset app could be more user-friendly.
Worked well for about 6 months until the winter. I noticed the battery terminals rusting; cleaned them lightly and it worked fine for a month. After the batteries EMOdied again it stopped working I've tried decal new batteries and nothing works; additionally the entire terminal is rusted. Is this a warranty issue?
Poor battery life seems to be the main issue. I've been using the product for 2 years. The lock, installation and app are all very good or very easy. I use it at a second apartment that is visited once monthly, so it is useful for allowing service vendors or neighbors in to check on the unit, which occurs about once every 2 weeks. Alkaline batteries last about 2-3 months. Lithiums last about 4 moths but are not recommended for use; I think that's because the battery life indicator just goes from 100% to zero so you don't have an indication of remaining battery life, but I'm not sure if this is the reason. Poor battery longevity really seems to be an issue based on reviewers at this site, and I notice in other internet reviews. I hope the company takes this matter seriously as their products are very good but this item misses the mark on the battery life issue. I hope they find a good solution and maybe offer some type of recall if an internet firmware update can't resolve the matter. I've been a Kwikset user for over 30 years. they're smart key rekeying technology is very important to me as I change my lock keys frequently. They formerly were the only company with the ability to do this. Should other companies produce locks that have demonstrably improved battery life, I may be willing to change. However, that remains to be seen and right now my hope is that quickset will resolve what appears to be a longstanding below-average battery life issue Given the number of times and duration that it has been brought up in the reviews.
We have four of these Halo Keypad Wi-Fi Enabled Smart Locks. Although the lock and keypad work well, the frustration comes from the "Update Now--Firmware Update Available" notification which is on the screen for each of the locks every time I open the app. It instructs the user to get close to the lock and press update. On all four of the locks, I have tried to update, but none of them will connect. Upon a search, the instructions are to toggle the bluetooth button, which I have done, and I receive the same error message every time. I worry that one day the locks will not work in my app because I haven't done the update yet. My husband and son cannot update their apps either. After searching online, I found there are many others with this frustration. If I knew now what I didn't know then, I would have purchased another brand besides Kwikset.
I love so many of the features of this deadbolt, but I don't know if I'll keep it because it's so insanely loud. I bought it so my kids could have an easier (quieter) entrance when coming home late, but the noise wakes me up so it defeats the purpose.
I've had this lock for over a year and don't know why I haven't gotten rid of it yet! Yes, it's convenient having a smart lock, BUT, it burns through batteries like it owns stock in Everyready! I put new alkaline batteries in 5 days ago and it is already giving a low battery warning. The longest the batteries have lasted without a low battery warning is 2 weeks. The smart lock is maybe used once a week; other times are all manual open/close. So now, most of the time I just take out the battery pack and only use it manually. The AI help says to make sure lock is aligned properly (locksmith installed), use alkaline batteries, and make sure firmware is up to date. All boxes checked! So, Unless you want to spend all your money on batteries, don't buy this lock!!!!!
