Does not work. Following the manufacturer's instructions does not produce results: specifically, although you paid for "atomic time" you cannot access it from the unit as shipped. If you want to know the barometric pressure, buy a newspaper because you'll have to tell the unit what it is. Display is awfully busy %26 pictures of clouds take up about a quarter of the screen. Manufacturer claims to offer support, but good luck finding it.
Unfortunately, it was operated thru batteries only which makes the readout at night not perfect. But I knew beforehand.
newer models are better
It was very good for what it did, but I wanted it to have some additional features and I wasn't careful enough before I order it. I returned it to the supplier and got one I really wanted. This one is an excellent choice for the basic needs.
I like the size. It's easy to read from many feet away. The set-up was really easy. All I had to do was change the time zone and the device automatically changed the time, day, and date within a couple of hours. The only thing I wish was different is the date, which could be a little larger in my opinion. This is my second La Crosse device and I'm confident that I'll have years of reliable service with this new one. My old one worked perfectly for more than 10 years.
This is the second purchase of this item I have made. The first one would only work if one of the batteries was partly sticking out from the back. If you closed the battery compartment, it wouldn't work. I returned that one and purchased another figuring I just got a bad one, but the second one I ordered had the exact same problem. I'm in the process of returning the second one. I'm very hesitant to try a third, but I think the person I bought this as a gift for would really like its functionality if it worked as expected. It's disappointing because I've had a La Crosse weather station myself for over 15 years and it's still working fine.
Most of the weather stations have color screens, which are pretty but use a lot of power so they do not stay on all the time unless you have them plugged in, which isn't always convenient. This unit has an always on black-and-white display which we like and is more portable and doesn't need to be plugged in.
3 weeks in: The outdoor sensor seems more accurate than any of my previous Acurite and SkyScan sensors, and usually matches local weather reports. Nice set of features. Battery only, no A/C needed. No backlight, even temporarily, though. However, button pushes are required to see many things: [first push] show highs; [second] show lows; [third] show heat index; [fourth] show dew point. So, if you want to see the high and low temps for the day, it takes 2 button pushes. As a result, if you want to hang it on a wall, you may need screw(s) or nail(s) or something that can stand up to the downward pressure of frequent button pushes. Using the fold-out table-top stand is probably best. WWV time keeping works. 4* instead of 5: A larger display that showed min/max high/low on the main screen and a short (~6sec) backlight would have been nicer. However, I knew that's not what this one did, I'm quite happy with it, and it works as described so far.
I've had a smaller version of this same clock/thermometer for years and loved it. When it no longer wanted to tell me what the outdoor temperature was (said it was 159 degrees...YIKES! ) I decided it was time to get a new one. The new version is twice the size as the first one, which makes it easier to read, except for the date, which is realllly tiny and letters/numbers are quite thin, making that part not so easy to read. I love the rest of it. I really like it, except....it's saying the outdoor temperature is 2 degrees...which is TRUE. Brrrrrr! It's COLD! I am very pleased with it and would recommend it as a good choice for yourself or as a gift for others.
So far so good. I bought this for my adult daughter for Christmas, but couldn't resist trying it out first. I think it will be used daily. She likes to track the humidity and barometric pressure when it causes her fibromyalgia to act up. We are in Florida and it is interesting to keep track of the weather at all times. It is ready to go...Shippping was good too, well packaged.
