Just writing this review to clear the air: if your rechargable battery ran out, it's most likely because the USB plug you use doesn't have enough power to charge it. Simply plug the USB cable to a cell phone charger or other port that has enough power. Once charging, the status light flashes 3 times on, then pauses and repeats.
I have had My Label maker for about 1 and a half years. it has been my go to label maker as I have had many of them from small handheld to typewriter like macines. they all were difficult for me to use as tI had to jump around on the keyboard and never really got to use to create . the machines were capable of so much more . I kist did not have the time to learn all that . This label maker goes right to work out of the box . I was able to create exactly what I wanted very quickly. I have now switched from an Imac to a Mac mini M@ and now there is no software for it . So I am looking for a way to make this work.
Bought one of these and hooked it up to my iMac. It gets it's power through the USB cable, and when plugged in shows up as a drive ....hence the Plug 'n Play thing. When I clicked on that it opened up the "Lite" version of it's software. At first It wouldn't print, I had to pull some of the label material out of the cartridge and it finally started working. I was thrilled. I then clicked an icon in the software to load the full version of the software, cool, it worked.....for ONE DAY. Next day it would spit out blank labels.. Tried and tried but no go.....did the upgrade software thing....no go. Grumpy!! Then later I found that even though it says you are on the latest software.....you may not actually be. I'm on OS X El Capitan......and once I got a newer version of both the lite software 2.11 and the full software 3.5.8.......I was back in business. The unit is a cool design but may be a bit flimsy......when you open the door to change cartridges the print head is supposed to move down from the rubber drive roller and let the label material and the ink transfer ribbon have room. There is a small tab on the door that pushes a part inside the printer and it doesn't seem to be well designed......so buy product protection and watch the position of that lever .....sometimes I have to get a probe and move it myself . Time will tell how long this will last......perhaps a more expensive unit from Brother would last longer.....if you plan to do a lot of label work it might be worth spending more money.
Sometimes jams, but that is still ok. My main problem, that software asked for update. After update software do not see printer. OSX sees it as printer. Software say allow extension, but it does not turn up at the extensions. OSX Sonoma. Real frustrating...
The battery is not rechargeable, so when it dies, you have to toss it and buy another one. That doesn't make any sense. I had to download the driver a couple of different times, but when it worked, it was easy to use. But then the battery went out and there is not way to recharge it. Very disappointing.
Once the battery is depleted, you might as well throw away the entire device, since a replacement battery is priced near the price of the initial device. The device will not work without the battery, even if it is plugged in. The lifetime of the battery is low. It will not charge, even if the remaining capacity should lend itself to charging.
I feel ripped off. I purchased 3 of these for 3 locations. When the internal battery dies, the unit cannot print. Even when plugged in, I cannot use the unit until I replace the battery.
This is my second Dymo label maker and I made the mistake of not reading the reviews and buying another unit. When your Battery stops working, you can buy a new battery for almost the cost of the entire label maker or throw this Dymo in the trash!!! Without a battery it will never work!!!
Company has not updated its software to stay current with operating systems.
I've had it with this label maker. I have followed all the troubleshooting suggestions and it still prints nothing or so faintly that you can't possibly read it. Do not buy this product.
