Loving it!

leebees August 17, 2014

So far the only thing I don't like is the price, I've never spent this much on anything for my knitting and crocheting but it was a must have. I previously bought a smaller lacis winder and it worked well on smaller skeins, however for thick yarn and red heart super saver, it didn't cut it. This winder says it can hold up to 10oz but I was able to get a full pound of baby soft yarn with no problems, I'm not sure if it's because of the tension I held the yarn at though. I did find it funny that they give you a full on screwdriver in the box, like people don't have one already but it does make it easy to keep it in the box when not in use. My dining room table has a very very small lip on the edge so the bottom wasn't flush but I put the winder on a thick piece of cardboard and it works perfectly but I think a desk or stool with a flat edge would be best if you have it. All in all I love this winder, I can guarantee if you use it you'll love it too.

The Best Winder Ever!

mailemakoa2 March 9, 2014

As an newer knitter I've branched out to a greater variety of yarns that don't come in tidy balls but long shanks of yarn. Not knowing how to shop for a yarn winder, my first one was quickly found lacking because it only handled small balls and wound too loosely causing tangles and frustration. This jumbo winder is a dream come true!! It makes nice solid yarn balls(?) with the yarn feeding from the center. It clamps onto the breadboard and is almost like a toy. I've wound yarn that didn't need to be wound just because I can and it is fast too. BUY THIS, YOU WON'T BE SORRY.

works incredibly well and as long as you hold some tension, it's nice, tight, and makes working with the yarn so much easier! Doesn't take long at all! Love having all my yarns wound up in this way and kept on peg board which looks awesome and is SO much easier to see what I have and can be inspired to start the next project

Fun and easy to use

Since my Lacis Jumbo Yarn Winder has arrived it has been in constant use. My yarn stash is getting organized quickly. The members of my crochet group like it too. Sturdy construction and ease of use make this a very worthwhile purchase.

Yarn winder

KimM March 25, 2017

Have extra hands. This wunder makes nice cakes. However, you'll need to use both hands and having an extra pair is recommended. If you run into a tangle or knot you'll need to hold it in place so you don't lose the tension. I had to redo my 1st ball because the tension got so loose that the yarn fell off. Use a nice sturdy table too. I tried to use a TV tray and it makes for a wobbly experience. It assembles quickly and came with a nice little magnetic screw driver. Do not expect this to arrive quickly. It took 3 weeks to get to Alaska and was also delivered after the date given.

Winder good for the price

MsMTNCrafty April 5, 2014

As a novice knitter/crochet hoarder of yarn this yarn ball winder is an excellent pick for the price. As soon as I open the box I assembled it and started winding up yarn ball from very small (about 1 oz to 4-6 oz balls without difficulty. Granted it does not wind your yarn as compact as the professional winders that yarns stores use but they did not pay $53 for their models either. The biggest problem I have is finding a table to set it up on. You really need a study table with a square edge to secure the winder on or it will pop off. Also the metal bracket that holds the yarn guide is slightly elevated (about 2 mm from sitting on the table top enough to make it unsteady and vibrate the yarn guide arm out of the plastic support. I am thinking about getting a piece of plywood to permanently attaching the entire winder on with a brace across the yarn guide mount to keep it in contact with the board making it more stable when I am winding my yarn. For what I need if for I think it is a pretty good purchase for the price. If I was an serous prolific knitter or crocheter I would think about getting a professional model with a motor or a wooden one.

Yarn winder

Tomboy February 21, 2016

Yarn winder was hard to put together. When it came time to snap the yarn holder in, it would not go no matter what. We had to super glue it on to work. We could not find a video to see how they did it. The plastic piece did not slip in and turn like it was supposed to.

Not sure if I will be keeping or returning......

HAPPYTVVIEWER October 22, 2014

Overall I LOVE IT and what it should do. I would up one skein of yarn so far - but as I was winding it was "slipping" as I cranked the handle and no matter how hard I tightened the clamp it kept on slipping on the table. You know what they say, if at first you don't succeed try, try again. So I will try on the next skein - going to use a piece of rubber jar opening material to see if it holds it more securely to the table and then check on "slippage" when cranking. If it continues to slip it's going back - just didn't want to jump the gun. The gears are all "plastic" so it might not be the sturdiest but will have to try again. But for almost $ 60 bucks I would have hoped it would have been more than all plastic.......... Definitely NOT a heavy duty machine for making yarn cakes. However, I do like how compact it makes the yarn - check out the yarn cake I made - and then it was so easy to work with......never rolled away !

Needs improvement...

Marks October 19, 2016

I liked that it came with a magnetized Phillips screwdriver. It was very handy when putting it together and keeping the screws from falling onto the floor. I was disappointed with the cone insert. I had to use my razor knife to shave away the tabs on the bottom in order to get the cone to screw in place. Other than that I really enjoy this winder. You just need to apply a little tension to get the yarn to wind up snug. Be careful and don't go too fast, or you might end up with a snag from the yarn piling over the top.
