It has smooth surfaces and wonderful latches. When fully opened it stays opened, yet closes smootly and easily. The inside of the desk has two compartments; one fits a stack of 8-1/2" by 11" paper with room to spare and the other makes a generous pencil box.

Love this lap desk. It's exactly what I was looking for. Easy open, lid stays up when you need it., big enough space for an 8.5x11 journal or notebook (most have too many sections to accomodate) plus space for pens etc. Comfortable on my lap with or without a footstool to prop myself up. Relatively lightweight and easily portable. I looked for a long time and this a dream. If you like to journal this is it. Highly recommend.

Very well designed and functions nicely. It was purchased for someone who's left side is partially handicapped by stroke. We added a handle to make it easier to pick up one handed and then a magnetic catch to keep the lid closed while being carried by the handle. Just the right space for a few papers, stamps and envelopes. He uses it mostly for writing notes and brief letters.

Well made. Roomy inside. Lid stays up easily for painting. Inside has makes it easy to stay organized with the dividers. Very good buy.

I bought this lapdesk as a gift for my daughter-in-law who does a lot of computer work and she loved it.

almost always, i use my laptop while watching tv. this is an excellent platform from which to multi-task, the storage is great for the odds %26 ends needed during the course of an evening.

Five pictures compare my old style Lapgear Schoolhouse Lap Desk with measurements to the current one. It has gotten Significantly smaller since I last purchased my older one. Yes, it may fit a laptop but nothing else. There's no room left to write down on paper or even a checkbook while the laptop is being used. The inside no longer fits an 8 1/2 x 11 paper from top to bottom. The construction quality has remained but if it is too petite to utilize them what's the point? And, the price is the same as it was when I purchased the bigger one. Everyone has experienced shrinkflation but I think some products are taking advantage. I haven't decided yet if I will keep this as a poor backup or go for one of the others on Amazon designed to hold books but a lot cheaper and possibly bigger.
