We are currently using a math curriculum that includes the 2-color abacus. This is by far the best manipulative that we own! It is designed for the children to "see" how numbers come together and interact. I've even learned a thing or two using it. When we use it for math, my girls can instantaneously see how to work a math equation or problem. Just yesterday, my daughter, age 5, wanted to measure a row of stacking cups she had put together. She pulled out the ruler and I suggested that she also use the abacus. To keep it simple we measured the cups in inches. The row of cups was much longer than a standard ruler so we imputed the amounts as we went along, on the abacus. Because she could "see" the quantity, she was able to tell me what the total measurement was. Brilliant!!! I will keep this tool for a long time to come. It's durable, easy to use and very efficient.
This is almost identical to the Cotter Abacus used with RightStart Math. Since this item is discontinued, look at their website.
My six year old grand daughter is learning addition and subtraction so this worked out great. sturdy / not cheap should last a long time.
We are using it at home and at school; kids love it and they are using it too to solve problems in computer programs.

Awesome product at a reasonable price. Made all the difference in Math for my 2nd grader!
My child liked to use this item and picked it up a lot to do things.
Using with RightStart Math? It's BACKWARDS! If you are using this abacus with the RightStart Mathematics curriculum, these colors are BACKWARDS! BE AWARE! It will confuse you and it will absolutely confuse your child. The RightStart Math abacus has the yellow beads in the top right and bottom left and the blue beads in the top left and bottom right.
To small for the price I paid I will be returning it
