My son (age 5) loves playing with Botley. He picked up the basic controls very quickly, so could get exploring straight away. Botley has lots of features and games with differing levels of difficulty, which means my son can go off and investigate some on his own and then we can solve the more difficult activities as a family. We love Botley's funny noises, he's a real character! The secret codes and 'Botley says' are a clever addition and firm favourites in our house. Botley is a smart and fun way to introduce kids (and adults) to the basic concepts of coding. Highly recommended.
The reason this particular coding robot appealed to me is that I have 2 boys aged 5 & 8 and I knew they would both be able to use and play with it together and also separately. The set up of the robot is incredibly easy, I would just note that you need to use strong/new batteries otherwise it may not have enough power. But once up and running the boys quickly found it easy to navigate and have loved setting up obstacles and routes. The age rating is 5+ and I would agree with this, although obviously with my 5 year old I had to go through the instructions with him. Whereas with an older child they can happily read through the instructions themselves. What is nice is that the page of 'secret codes' is written in a way that even my youngest boy could understand himself so he quite happily makes the robot move and sound like a Frog or a Police car! You can also get the robot to follow the black line on the reverse of the tile boards which the boys thought was very cool. This a robot that they will be able to have lots of fun with for some time as there are endless possibilities of different routes and tricks it can perform, with lots of accessories that also come with it. I have 2 very happy boys!

This was a great toy for a few days. Thought provoking and exciting for all to play with. We were very careful with Botley but after a short period Botley only turns in circles. Pretty disappointing.
Botley worked well for a bit but not now. Botley does not receive the sent code and is consistently displaying a blue light, makes a sound like an engine spluttering followed by multiple beeps.
Botley doesnt take more than 5-6 of commands, then stops. Tried adding more, still stops. Functions work, but with so limited programming it's terrible. Especially as gift for a small one.
As many have said, and I wish I noticed before purchasing, these are awful in a classroom setting. Not until I opened the first (of many) boxes that I read the instructions to notice that it says you can not use more than 4 at a time. Honestly, anything more than one at time creates issues. I was trying to use this in Kindergarten and Grade 1 as an excellent introduction to simple coding using the cards and the remote to match but it became a headache of lost connections, ridiculous 4 input codes to tie a remote to a bot which can easily get messed up with multiple bots, and lots of disappointed kids. Now I have multiple of these robots and can not use them as intended. Waste of money, time, and I have to answer for why they do not work to my admin and staff.
Stopped working after only a few uses. Was excited that there was this new version with all the added features! Well, it's seriously deceiving as it now won't work. It's a lot of money for a toy that can't be used, and I don't have a lot of it (money)... I wouldn't buy again nor recommend, sadly! It could have been a really nice toy and learning tool! :(
I purchased several of these to be used in a educational setting. Botley has great difficulties hooking up to it's remote and batteries die quickly. I am super disappointed. I really like the concept of being unplugged for our young learners. The frustration was too much to overcome. I wouldn't even give it a one star, but I didn't have a choice.
Christmas gift for my 6 year old. After 3 days it has stopped working and beeps repeatedly. Super disappointing.
