My son loves playing with this. Since I helped him make the suggested robots, he has already used the pieces loads to make lots of weird and imaginative machines and robots. I was afraid he would be disappointed with the toy because its not an electronic robot (he had asked Santa for a robot) but it couldn't be further from the case. I am really pleased to see him independently making his own creations which is a step he has not made with Lego.
An excellent gift for any Robot/Designing enthusiast! Our six year old son, navigated the extremely clear instructions with ease and encouraged adult interaction to ensure he was putting the pieces together (His father was itching to get involved!). He had so much fun taking all the pieces out of the box and matching them to the instructions. Firstly, he built the tall robot which took between 10-15 minutes to piece it all together and was thrilled at the success when the Gears Robot was up and running! We quickly learnt that this particular robot preferred soft surfaces such as carpets instead of wooden flooring. The other two styles worked excellently on the wooden floor. As time has progressed this Robot has been reassembled into many different forms, at time's following the instructions but also using his imagination to create his own versions! This Gears Robot has really given him the confidence to attempt, practise and create! The parts are easy to connect, with the robot also suiting our near three year old. Bare in mind that very occasionally if things aren't lined up straight, he may topple over - but that's all part of the fun!
I ordered this to play with my two boys, who are 3 and 5 years old. Both boys have a range of different construction toys and are always building things together, so when I saw this set, I was automatically drawn to it. This is the first construction toy we have used that is made nearly completely from gears, and I was so surprised at how easy it was to assemble and how simple the instructions were for my 5 year old to follow. After building 2 different robots, my youngest decided he would like a flying car, and together they were soon building all sorts of fantastic creatures and vehicles! The colourful gears push together and interlock easily, and seem very sturdy so even my 3 year old can easily use it. I am very impressed with the learning capability of this set and it definitely seems to be keeping my aspiring young engineers very busy and interested. This Robots in Motion set comes with 116 pieces, so has plenty of scope for young imaginations, but is fully compatible with all of the Learning Resources Gears range if you want to add to it, which we will definitely be doing! As a parent, I also like the fact that the box is very sturdy and the pieces all store back into it easily. My children have really enjoyed playing with this set over the last few days, and I even caught my husband secretly building them a robot last night! My only negative about this set is that it only comes with the instructions for 3 robots inside the box. Learning Resources have obviously thought this through, and have kindly put instructions for other robots on their website, but personally, I think my son would of preferred to of had them inside the box with the others so he could of started building them straight away. Other than that, I would very highly recommend!

This product is amazing. Bought for y year old birthday and loved it. Even the 3 year old is able to make robots and cars from this set.

Bought for 5 year old grandson who loves it. Hours of fun and creativity.
My 6 year old boy loves this product he spends time putting robots together and then pulling them apart, he really enjoys how the cogs work and giving the robot big yellow eyes. This product really encourages fine motor skills in young children, getting them to think about how things work together.
Build quality is mostly adequate, but 1 of the joint types falls apart often meaning the robots don't articulate like they should. Also only 3 designs included and no more are on the website.
Super cool toy in theory. But the small black pegs that connect gears aren't strong enough for gears to move—the whole operation just falls apart. Wheels on chain don't actually move. Frustrating.
