I like the light but the alarm could be louder. I also would like to choose time increments less than 5 minutes.
This timer is a great tool for those who need a visual aid when cooking & baking. I am visually impaired and found it works for me too. Setting the pre-timer to go off (there is a ring too) before the actual time gives you time to prepare whatever it is you need for when the ending timer goes off. This timer also shows a red light (start), yellow light (pre-timer) and then a green light (end). I highly recommend this timer for those who have a lot going on at once in the kitchen or any other occasion when you need a timer.
I wanted something to help keep track and limit my son's video game time. Many times I would set limits but would be involved with my other child or tending to the dog and forget. With this timer I can give him a set amount of time to play and when it goes off his time is up. I like that there is a warning that the time is ending soon so he can wrap up what he needs to do before time expires. The timer is adjustable from 5 minutes to 2 hours and the warning time is adjustable from 5 minutes remaining to 115 minutes remaining. When the timer is counting down the light is green, when it hits the "warning time" mark you set there is an audible tone and the light starts flashing yellow. Once time is up there is another tone and the light changes to red. This timer has helped eliminate arguments over whether time is up or not. The timer is super easy to use as well.
The timer requires 3 AAA batteries that are not included. After getting the batteries, I needed a small phillips head screwdriver to remove the battery door on the bottom of the timer. The door is screwed closed which is good since the timer may be used with children. They cannot open the door and remove the batteries without a screwdriver. Setting the time was easy. The first dial is set for the ending time. The second dial is set for the warning or as a “heads-up your time is almost finished.” When the warning time alarms, the dome becomes yellow and a quick alarm sounds. When the final time has expired, the dome turns red and another alarm sounds. The alarm stops after a few seconds. There is a dial on the back of the timer to adjust the alarm volume. This timer provides audible and visual alarms. Students cannot say they did not know if their time was over because the green, yellow, or red light tells them where they are in their time period. While the alarm is marketed for children in a school or learning setting, it can be used throughout the house. For example, in the kitchen it can be used when cooking a dish that requires the cook to do something mid-way through the cooking time. The warning alarm could be set to alert the cook to check on the dish during the cooking time and the final alarm set when the cooking is completed without having to reset a kitchen timer for two different settings. The cook could set it once at the beginning and move on to other cooking activities. There are no safety issues with the timer. Although it is plastic, it appears to be rugged enough to stand-up under repeated uses.
I initially got the Learning Resources Time Tracker visual timer to see if it would be helpful when trying to get my granddaughter to finish her homework by giving her a visual timer to watch. She is only 6 years old and does not fully understand time so I was hoping this would help when I would tell her she had 15 or 10 minutes left to finish her work. The timer itself comes with a top dial that can be set in 5 minute increments up to 120 minutes. The bottom dial is a warning that also is set in 5 minute increments. Once the timer is set and you pugh the start button the large dome light on top turns green and will stay green until the timer gets to the warning time. It then sounds an alarm and starts flashing yellow. When time is up it sounds another alarm and flashes red until you turn it off. This timer does not ‘wind down’ so you do not see any increments by minutes, it just stays at the times you set the dials at. It took a couple uses for my granddaughter to understand the timeframes but it really did help in getting her to finish with her homework items and was easier than having to constantly remind her to finish up. Another great place we have found the timer to be useful has been with TV and tablet time. Previously we have always said “10 more minutes’ which turned into 20 or 30 more minutes. Now we set the time (15 minutes) and the warning time (5 minutes) and they know when the light turns yellow they only have 5 minutes left. Once it is red they know now to turn everything off. The timer is worth it just for that!!
This is a very neat gadget. I would include a picture, but my computer is not letting me download a picture right now. This is a very useful item. We are using it at church for various activities with our children. You can also use it as a kitchen timer and when you see the changing colors, you know that your time is just about up. With the visiual alarm and also the audio alarms, it keeps the kids very interested. It is good for timed games and each time you can have a different child be in chrage of the time. This is a brilliant product and thank you!!
If your looking for a timer for cooking, baking, time outs for your little ones, just about anything this thing seems to fit the bill. Adjustable volume for quiet times with a light that alerts you even if the sound is shut off. Anything from 5 minutes to 2 hours and also an adjustable reminder to warn you with sound or light before the timeline ends. I will make a video of how this item works and post it on you tube just search time tracker mini. priced right and does not come with the 3 AAA batteries you will need to make it functional but has many more applications than I have listed.
The Time Tracker Mini has been a welcomed addition in our house. It is small and easy to use. After playing with it to determine how to set the timer and the see the warning light for time about to run out, we began using it for a variety of things. The school where my boys attend require 20 minutes of reading homework each night. The Time Tracker Mini is a fun way for my kids to time their reading. If the green light is still on, they know to keep reading. My husband and I allow our children to play video games and use other technology. However, we do not want them to have too much screen time, so we limit their exposure. The Time Tracker Mini can be set to remind them when it is time to turn off the computer or game system. We have also used it to remind our kids that it is bed time. When the red light comes on, it's time for bed. Of course, we could ask our kids to look at the clock, but the Time Tracker Mini adds a little fun to keeping themselves on track and on time.
My ten year old has huge time management issues - they have used a visual timer with him at school with good results. So I thought this would be the item that might work for him at home. He was super excited to open the box, install batteries (not included), and set it to work. The use of this item is kind of limited though. First off, you can only set time in increments of 5 minutes. We could work with this for most uses. When you have set it, turn it on, and press the start button, the top dome lights up green. There is otherwise, no indication how much time has elapsed until you hit the warning time. They actually suggested a timer that does not count down at school since, a timer ticking or counting down was too distracting for him. You set the top or green ring to the total time that you have given for the task - only in 5 minute increments. The bottom or yellow ring gets set to when you want a warning. This in my opinion could be the greatest asset, but works out to be a huge weakness. Say you set the total time to 20 minutes, with a 5 minute warning (you can't do less than 5 minutes) - only 15 minutes have passed, a tone sounds and the light changes from green to blinking yellow. For me as an adult, I found the blinking yellow light to be so completely distracting I had to move the timer behind something because it was driving me crazy. For a distractible kid, I can imagine it would be disastrous. So, in theory, it could be just what we need. But I simply can't use the warning setting. I wish they would make it a solid yellow, and that you could set it for only 1 or 2 minutes. And my 10 year old really said he wishes that the top dome was the start button.
Was disappointed when this timer did not work properly. Also disappointed when I had to pay the postage to return it for credit!
