This turret press not only does the process of reloading exceptionally well, but it also is very , very fun to use -- more fun than a progressive. It can process cases that have not been cleaned well -- just shake the dust off. With control and observation on each stage of the reloading process of each case, one can feel if anything is wrong . I can detect a cracked case when sizing or sometimes even different brands of brass. I look forward to relaoding with this press and it neatly and cleanly dispenses spent primers... Loading speed is over 200 per hour.. on a test did a timed trial which came out to 249 reloads per hour, but that does not include renewing primeres, cases, powder. But this press is such a pleasure to use that I do not hurry. It is just fun.
I have been using a Classic Turret Press since its introduction. Just bought a second because a small c-press of another brand developed a crack. I have a few presses from various makers, and this Lee Classic gets most of the work. the turrets are inexpensive, so you can leave dies set up and ready to use. The auto-priming system takes a little familiarization, but once learned it is better than most. The Auto Indexing allows you to run a little faster with less wasted motion, and the Spent Primer catch tube is the most effective I've tried. One of these will do it all well. Only a progressive is faster.
Inexpensive but will do everything you need to load your own. Only the 2nd press I have owned but for my needs it works well with Lee and other dies that I own.
I have been incredibly impressed with this reloading press. I had used a single stage for several years and then bought a Hornady progressive. I got tired of switching out dies and bought the turret press. I now have turrets set up for 6 different calibers with more to come soon. I normally don't reload more than 100 of each caliber at a time and the turret press works so well I'm considering selling the progressive.
I bought the lee classic turret press as a Christmas present for myself. These press is smoth and easy to operate and functioned perfectly for me through the first 500 rounds and shows no signs of stopping. I can't wait to get the accessories that will make reloading on the Lee classic turret press even easier.
I've been using the older model Lee 4 hole turret for over 20 years and it's worked great. I bought this newer classic model because I liked it's updated features. The longer stroke of the classic is a lot easier on old arms and the way the ram has been drilled out to allow the spent primers to fall through the ram into a plastic tube is a big improvement over the old model turret. The old one would allow spent primers to scatter all over the floor or fall inside the press.
After 40 years of reloading and using a few different presses, I would recommend this one to a beginner with a strong interest in reloading instead of a single stage press - it can quickly and easily be used in single stage mode. It is a very good quality, sturdy and well made press that works as designed and intended. Parts and accessories from Lee and the aftermarket are widely available at very reasonable cost. Like any other piece of equipment designed to do relatively critical task - it works with gun powder! - it does require some maintenance during use. It can be greatly improved by doing some of this along with some minor tweaks to make sure everything is right during initial setup. This will also provide a great deal of insight into how and why the press works which helps even an experienced reloader get better results. There are many videos available on maintenance and operation of this press. There are better presses of this type available at a much higher cost. I have seen none with more bang for the buck anywhere close to this price. If you are looking for the highest volume in the least time, you should probably look at a much more expensive setup. This is the ticket for beginning to intermediate reloader or advanced reloader with modest needs. I have the high end equipment and still use this press for load development and much routine reloading for my use. The single stage press is now mostly gone from my bench.
Cheaper than most single stage presses, reviews on the net were all good so I thought I would give it a try for under $100. Was cleaned, set up and running within 2 hours and could not be happier with the results. I am hitting dime size and less groups at 100 yards within 3 hours of opening the box!
The Lee precision classic turret press is another Lee product that is genius in its simplicity. All of the Lee reloading equipment I have purchased over the years seems to be over simplified. The Lee precision classic turret press is no exception. It is simple to set up and operate. If you reload more than one caliber you can set up other turrets with your other dies and simply switch turrets in a matter of seconds and you're ready to load another caliber. It produces excellent reloads and works flawlessly.
This is a really solid press for the money. Unfortunately there were two issues. 1) Primer was not centering in the shell holder. The arm was travelling too far in making it Very difficult to seat primers. I superglued a small piece of aluminum to the far side of the primer arm and it works great now ... but I should not have to do that with a brand new press. 2) My RCBS, Hornady, Redding dies will not fit on the turret as is. The Lee dies have a much smaller locking ring so they do fit. The others you can screw in individually and use or put Lee locking rings on if you want to load 3 or 4 on a turret and leave them (that IS one of the main advantages of a turret press, right?). Somewhere in the product description this should be noted as many people buying a turret press will have multiple sets of dies, some from other manufacturers. As far as operation, once the priming thing was straightened out the press works great. It is solid and very smooth. It is overall a great value, for the price nothing else on the market compares.
