This is fantastic for bringing images to life, we did it on our dog and it looks fantastic in a frame on the wall. Just a note the picture needs to be close up to get the best detail and putting loads of small pieces in by hand does start to hurt your fingers after a while, but this does not take away how good it looks
My brother passed 12/20 and so I thought this would be a great present for my mom to remember him. My interest in Legos and his face. The ability to use the site to create the perfect picture is great. I did special order light blue to use instead of the yellow tiles.
We were inspired coming back on the train from Montreal after seeing'The Art of Brick'. Took a pic of my in-laws and the end result will be their X-Mas present.
We purchased 5 of these one for each member of the family to create a family mosaic wall of lego in our kids' playroom. We loved every bit of the process from selecting the perfect picture to completing the mosaic. Wish it came in more colours for a more realistic effect but never the less anyone who saw it wanted to know where we got it from and how much it cost. If there wasn't a limit on quantity, I would purchase more to give out as gifts to other family members.
I'd had one of these using the booth in the Leicester Square store when these were first released, now I've grown up a bit, acquired a husband and a dog it was only right to update my own and use the newly decorated living room as an excuse to buy the other two one. Absolutely love them and with the mosaic creator online we can change them as frequently as we like (or as our sore fingers and thumbs allow us!). Certainly a real talking point, I can't stop smiling at them.
I purchased this item for a friend. I wanted to surprise her by doing a mosaic of one of her dogs. It turned out great and she was super excited about it. However, I feel like it's either a hit or a miss when you choose photos to process through the mosaic maker. I've tried many photos, and the one that I used for this build was the only one that turned out to look really nice. With the rest of them, you couldn't really tell what they were supposed to be.
I was so looking forward to creating an image that I could put on my wall, but it wasn't until I was almost finished that I discovered that the image generated by Lego from my picture has more bricks of one colour than are actually supplied in the box - 112 more, to be exact. It's so frustrating to get so close - it was looking so good. Now I have to decided whether the manipulate the image or start from scratch! Maybe the mosaic maker could be tweaked so that it does not supply you with a picture you can't make right out of the box, or it provides a note that you need 112 more bricks to finish this image. I would have been more than happy to buy the extra 112 pieces to make this image, but now I need to decide what to do. Scrap it or try and buy some bricks that won't take a month to get here.
No instructions in 40179 box. No QR code. So not able to do. Took box apart to no avail. Tried to locate via “missing instructions” on website. Ugh. Says “not found”. Disappointing because I want to get this done. If I liked it, I was going to buy for my brother.
I was given this as a birthday present and have to say that I was completely underwhelmed. Having now had to go on the website and seen the price, LEGO could have easily personalised it, with at least a favourite photo in the box. Some instructions would be helpful too, as there was nothing in / on my box to indicate this is something you have to go online to do(!) It is only because I asked the gift giver if something had gone wrong that I found out about it. The box turned up with the inside divider broken - not the quality you expect from LEGO. Basically it's an oversized box with a set of monochrome bricks. You may as well buy hammer beads. You pay a premium for LEGO and I'm afraid this is not a premium experience.
The idea of this set is brilliant but finding a picture that makes a half decent image you can see is hard. The newer Lego art sets are much better with a much better build. This will be hard to display as it's just a big base plate. Also a lot of extra bricks left could maybe make a second pic if you got a second base plate. So value for money isnt that great. Think this set needs re visiting or the idea does. I'd pass on this set
