Nice little toy

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got this for my 8yr old but he had a little difficulty putting it together so my 11yr old helped him. It comes with an app you can put on your phone to make music videos. There are some disks that you can use to change the music and settings. Kids enjoy playing with it

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] What a brilliant outstanding creative idea my son found this to be in his own words the best present ever. So easy to use and so very much unlimited things to discover and evolve. A truly unique social play experience. I 100% endorse this as a must for all children who love to create.

Great little gift

Josiejordan20 March 24, 2021

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I started with downloading the free app; downloading wasn't immediate but did not last long. What I found beneficial at once was that the free Bandmate lets you test the application before buying any Vidiyo sets – you can bring your first Bandmate to life to be sure you know how it works! Cool The second what I liked was the explanations of the “Lego etiquette” – which is just good manners – directed to kids, with simple self-explanatory pictures explaining what not to do when filming etc. (hopefully some adults will see it, too). Next, we chose our band name, then a virtual figure, and started placing it on the virtual “stage”, namely our living room (the table? sofa? carpet?). The app sees the environment exactly as it is so we decided to go rather for an empty hallway. The first mistake: do not click on the green (or other) dots, click in the right lower corner to start the play ;-) Next, we chose music. I liked the choice – perhaps not a very wide one yet, but all the newest hits! When the figure started “singing”, we tried all the free 6 Beatbits adding “actions” to the video, then, after the video stopped recording, I took my sons photo with the figure – fun! Now, we are opening our boxes and recording new videos. What I think about the Lego Vidyo is that it continues the creativity tradition that Lego is famous for, only in a different way, combining play in the real world with virtual reality effects. You look at your old living room (boring!) and start thinking about how to make it more “staged”, more attractive for the whole filming. We made a curtain using a bedsheet, and are planning on building some decorations like in a home theatre to make the “stage” more realistic! Second, although 16 Beatbits will become redundant when more boxes arrive over time, the “trading” has already started, my son is already agreeing to swap some of them with his friends.

Great for children aged 7+

Mrsgibson1982 March 18, 2021

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My 7 year old son loves Lego, and couldnt wait to try this product. The recommended age is 7+ onwards, which I think is quite right. It took my son around 20 minutes for him to build. I downloaded the accompanying app to my Android phone. The aim is to move the different Lego pieces/Lego figure and make your own video. Hours of fun! The interactivity is really good. You can choose music from the library to add to your movie. Would recommend this product

Awesome little set.

Willham89 March 18, 2021

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My 8 year old loves this. He's been doing stop motion videos for a while now. And when these sets came out I knew it would be perfect for him. He built it in good time with no issue. And has made some amazing videos using it. Will be getting the rest of the collection.

My 6 year old really enjoyed it

JamesBleakney March 31, 2021

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] When my 6 year old opened the box he was very excited and first thing he did was build the figure. He really loved the blue, translucent hair piece on the figure. Building the stage and box was fairly simple for him using the provided instructions and he only had a small issue when trying to figure out how the handles fitted on but he got there in the end. The instructions were pretty clear for the build but we had a few issues getting the app to work from the Google Play Store. We first tried to install it on his tablet but it was not available from the Google Play Store so we ended up installing it on my phone. The augmented reality part of the app was cool and it took a few goes to get the distance right for it to display but my 6 year old was amazed to see a full size augmented reality Lego figure in our living room. It comes with 16 tiles or "Beat Bits" which you can add to the stage walls and they will be scanned by the mobile app which will let you press them and they will play different music or sounds depending on which you select. This means you get a giant Lego figure dancing and moving to music in your living room as you press the different tiles. Overall he really enjoyed playing with this and over the past few days he has gone back to it again and again. The only downside I found is that he has to use my phone to play with it rather than his own tablet so it would be great if the app was supported on more devices.

Interesting concept, but app currently lets it down

Cake22 March 13, 2021

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This toy is the high quality that is always provided by Lego. It is a fun design with a headphone handle. The character provided with this set is like a robot alien. Other character sets can be purchases as well as seperate band members that can be used together on the app. The app is what lets this product down. It requires 157mb to download but then needs an additional 323mb once the app has been installed. The loading time is long and my son has minimal patience so he got quite frustrated. Also it lagged and froze quite a lot during the video making process. I couldn't work out how to save videos to the phone but there is a share option. I would recommend downloading and checking out the vidiyo app before purchasing this item. There is a free play option where you can select a character and create videos without the purchase of a toy.

Be warned

Deckard March 15, 2021

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Bought this for my son but he was unable to play it and neither of our mobile phones were on the compatible list for the app. Try and install the APP before purchasing to make sure it installs as toy is useless with out it
