This LEGO set is a fantastic addition to any household with multiple toy cars. It keeps my toddler engaged for hours in pretend-play mode. He loves organizing, building, and creating little stories around the vehicles. It's a great way to encourage imaginative play and keep them entertained without screens. Highly recommended for parents looking to spark creativity in their little ones!
Purchased these new road plates for my nine year old who has a substantial Lego city. He was eager to test them out and see how they compare to his other ones. We quickly realised the lanes aren't wide enough for a lot of the vehicles to pass each other but it is possible to stick them side by side to make a wide road. The downside of this is you only get the equivalent of one of the old road plates so assembling them this way would become very expensive. What we did like is the ability to make parking bays and these new plates made the ideal base to build a transport distribution depot. The accessories you get in the packs, the street furniture and the trees are a welcome addition.
Very disappointed with these new road plates. They are very difficult to keep together when using them on the carpet. Probably work better if you have them on a table or hard floor, but no good for carpet use. The glow in the dark lights aren't very effective. The actual road plates are quite small. Much prefer the original roads.
As someone with a city layout, this is a nightmare. I have the skatepark set, and these roadplates dont work with the current modulars or mocs. The only way to properly integrate these roadplates into a city is by raising all buildings up one plate on your current baseplates, and buying extra baseplates and placing these road plates on them. imo, its ripping us fans off. If we were still able to buy the normal roadplates, fine. But i dont want us to spend almost twice the price for almost half the normal product. These are not useful to anyone with an existing city, or even just a street of modulars. Please, just keep selling the normal road plates aswell. This has really made me feel cheated out of money for buying the normal roadplates just to have them changed.
At first I though it's just a joke from Lego or just road for junior Lego. But now, when they retired old road baseplate and I can see it better, it's even worse. Looks very ugly, would be OK for Junior, but still. Why the grey tiles connecting to other pieces make road wider? This looks really bad. The idea of 2 normal baseplate high could work for creator theme, but for modular not. Very ugly details... And those big pieces, ugh... Why Lego don't use normal tiles or bigger tiles? Why this zig zag shape of 2 stud high? How to make a solid line on road? How to make a curve? Why 50 traffic sign? What would collector do with dozens of them? Lego, what have you done?! Please, leave this for Junior Lego and make one nicer from smaller tiles for others.
A terrible idea. Adult fans will either build their own roads or use the original versions. They certainly won't be using this rubbish that, apart from being overproced, invite more cost in having to raise up existing structures to accomodate these designs. Fine for kids but rubbish for everyone else. Avoid.
Seriously I don't understand what Lego was thinking when designing the new road system. While the shiny look is great, they can't be combined with baseplates, so all those lovely modular buildings on baseplates can't be connected. Of course you could use plates instead, but who has so many plates lying around? Also the Roads are way too narrow... modern 6 stud cars barely fit... the wider trucks don't fit at all. And all of this with hefty price tag.
In short: - It is shiny (how often do you see mirror images on the asphalt - so here goes realism) - Way too small pieces, so it needs something solid underneath (you can forget putting it on a bed or even lifting a bigger chunk) - Connectivity to sets other than roads is practically the "you can put it next to that" - Curves are not possible - Only roads, non vehicular people are literally off road So, highly variable (in the sense of length of straight roads), but for anything else, highly limited. For play value, barely better than taking a few sheets of paper and drawing some lines on those. Will be interesting to see if competitors stand up to fill the gaps this system creates or only the second hand market will skyrocket.
So few pieces for so much money (as compared to most other sets; plus there's zero licence branding costs in such a set; and no minifigures). Children have to save double or triple the money to add these roads to their sets (as compared to previous road plates or road playmats).
Why were the original road plates replaced with these. Don't want to sound nasty but the new design and concept is a joke. You can get the originals from other leading suppliers but have to pay more knowing they have been retired. But hey you pay for the quality. Very sad with Lego for retiring them☹️
