It's a bit expensive, but it's so well worth it. There's a lot of parts, and they're very tiny some of them, but my daughter put it together. She was like a machine putting it together. Didn't miss a beat. It took her 5 1/2 hours. With interruptions, of course. This little house gives me so much joy. I can't tell you enough how much I love it!
After buying a lot of Lego for my kids and husband, this was my first purchase for myself. I thought it would be fun to build with my kids (ages 4 to 6yrs old), and it was! My most "active" helper was one of the 4yr olds, who managed to do a lot of it with my guidance/assistance. My other 4 yr old has had a ton of fun playing with the set. I've noticed some others have commented that the roof and left wall aren't very secure. We have not had this problem. The whole building seems quite firm and has easily stood up to my 4 year olds carefully playing with it. In fact, I can gently lift the whole house by holding under the roof. There is one section that I've had problems with and that is the light up brick in the fireplace. It seems to only intermittently light up. I've just sent Lego an inquiry about this and I imagine they'll be able to help me out with this. My only other concern is that I wish the baby gingerbread wasn't so small, or that Lego could have supplied two of them like they do with many of their really small pieces. My kids love their cute little gingerbread baby, but I can see it being quickly lost. I also thought it was strange that there wasn't an older child since there is a toy horse and truck and such as gifts. Overall, we love the set. I think it's adorable and will make an excellent Christmas decoration. The kids and I had a marvelous time putting it together, and they love playing with it. Perhaps this will be the start of my Lego Christmas village?
My grandson built this for me at my request. Having been building Lego since a toddler, it was a quick build for him, no more than a few hours. The result is now my beautiful, bright Christmas table centrepiece which all the family shall treasure for many years to come. Placed on a rotating mirrored base, all enjoyed examining the many facets of the build. Special memories which the grandchildren will carry through their lives. Thanks Lego!
This is the first Creator Expert build I've done having watched my husband take on a lot - when I spotted the Gingerbread House in store, I knew I wanted it for our Lego Christmas village but also wanted to try my hand at building. As a novice at this level, I found it quite challenging but the sense of satisfaction I got from completing the build was amazing! I love the little details on this set - the bedding and cushions are tiny bars of chocolate, the bow on the present is a pretzel - and the overall finish is gorgeous. It fits in well with the winter train and winter fire station sets and is a great addition to our village. It has also inspired me to get another set for myself because I loved the process of building it. Thank you Lego!
I built this a year ago and, setting it up along with my other Winter Village sets, felt impressed to share my feelings. This is a worthy rival to Santa's Workshop for the title of cutest, quirkiest Lego set ever. It is just so beautiful and delightful. I particularly love the frosting and lollies on the roof, the coloured frosted windows, the candy-cone window and door frames. The light brick is activated by pressing the smoke in the chimney, so clever! If only the Sydney Opera House (from about 6 years ago) had such a fine finish to the line along the top of its roof - well, it's given me some ideas. Two minor flaws - we all would have preferred a moulded gingerbread baby instead of just providing a printed 1x2 tile, and, as per normal with the Winter Village collection, the roof doesn't quite fit together (this time the middle part is incredibly weakly attached - so many of these sets have roof problems, it's almost a characteristic). I am glad I bought two copies of Mr Gingerbread Man from the collection several years ago, because he is nicer looking than the moustachioed one included with this set. Mrs. Gingerbread Man is a gas with her pink icing, such a clever touch, one of many, many in this highly imaginative set. (all I need now is a witch and have Hansel and Gretel!)
I brought this for myself as I love gingerbread, First time I've played with lego since in was young. I was pleasantly surprised how easy the instructions were and how cute all the little extra touches made. I left the roof to my boyfriend after reading reviews but he had no issues with it at all. please can you make a mini figure gingerbread baby for next year. I loved making it so much I've now brought myself the diner
What a great build this was. The whole family was involved. My 5 year old made the easier smaller models and me, my partner and 14 year old tackled the house. The level of detail is amazing, they have a bath, toilet etc, snow topped roofs and window ledges. Took us around 7 hours in total over 2 days and was thoroughly enjoyable throughout. We had a few tricky parts fixing the roof on and a few wrong parts placed in the wrong areas but otherwise smooth sailing. Hopefully starting our Christmas tradition of a new Lego Christmas village piece every year. I suppose the pricing is a little steep for what it is but I'd happily pay that again if it means me and my family can have a great time building like we did with this model.
The gingerbread house is an amazing set and it was challenging especially in the roofs. The rooms had a lot of space and each piece was put for a reason. The idea of the light brick in the chimney was brilliant. It fits perfectly in my winter village. I congratulate the designer for an amazing success.
I was almost put off buying this because of the reviews about the roof. I ended up buying this rather than the Christmas train because the train track would be too big for my little coffee table. I absolutely loved building this set. It was such fun and I love all of the little touches. The roof was a little fiddly but I found it pretty easy and it all seems sturdy to me. The light up fireplace is so cute and I love the family portrait hanging above it on the inside. I know the windows aren't traditional colours like some people mentioned but I think they are lovely. I can't think of anything I don't like about this set. I'm looking forward to having it out for Christmas every year. :)
I built this with my 6 year old son. We love the attention to detail and the mini figures. It's a great addition to a Lego collection especially the Christmas sets. We found the roof panels easy to build but impossible to attach. It kept pinging off and disconnecting and we have yet to attach 5 roof panels that will stay attached. Highly disappointed at a poor design that makes it so difficult to do.
