The Haunted House is my second Lego building after the Parisian Restaurant. At first, I hesitated to buy this set after reading a few negative comments about the failure of the Madman's elevator. But I finally decided to give it a try after seeing the item was on back order. Now, I am so happy after completing my build of the Haunted House. The Haunted House is beautiful in every corner, and more importantly, the elevator works without any problems. As this is my second build set, I find the Lego instructions in 2020 are very easy to follow. The bags are numbered up to 18. Each number has either 1 or 2 bags. It is easier to sort and build following the instructions. I love almost every detail of the Haunted House: Von Baron's glowing portrait, the entry door and how it is opened, the piano, the hanging skeleton, and mostly the build of the tower where the Madman's elevator is going up and down. I am using exactly 148 chains as mentioned in the instructions. Make sure that you connect them in the same direction. Two thumbs up for the Haunted House designer!
It is a fun set to build. Not too complex so can definitely be assembled with children and let them do it all. It is quite sturdy, which matters as the fun comes with opening it up. Very nice touch to put one customer as a disabled person. All characters are "yellow" so one could argue another colour could have been added but it is already a good step for diversity in your lego village... The house looks great, the colour works well. I really love the organ, such a lovely piece of lego engineering! You get a haunted painting too which comes with its own battery so no need to purchase that one separately. There is a lot of interesting details, most of them setting you a few years back. If you have been a lego "player" for many years, you may recognise some of the artefacts included. I love that there are also 2 Freestanding ghosts. The front garden is cute with the tombstone and the pumpkin. Nice touch. Finally, I think it is quite easy to make this set modular if you wish to install it in your lego city. I would put it not too far from the Ghostbuster's HQ though, just to keep it all under control...
Being new to Lego, this is my fourth Lego Creator build having only built the Book Shop, Pet Shop and Parisian Restaurant before, but the first built with using more of the mechanical features and I was very hesitant at first that I was actually going to be able to complete it. The instructions were very clear and easy to follow and I was so excited to have completed it and it works! I love the fun aspect of the drop ride and the light brick and did I say it actually works! Yes I am a bit excited. The height of this build is just awesome and stands out in my cabinet. I would like to see little gargoyles instead of frogs however and for the 3 other blank corner positions where more frogs should go, I put a black stud and plate on top to keep in with the rest of the design. I love that there is a wheelchair character and a ramp for access. Good thinking outside of the box there Lego, many kids will feel included in playing with this one.
I was so excited to receive this kit but I knew that it would be a hefty build so I was saving it up for my planned time off work. Lets face it, 2020 is a bust holiday wise so how better to spend your time than building? This build absolutely flew past. There is so much to see as you build and there are even little details in the build manual that explain what each artifact is that the Baron has on display. I loved all the throw backs to The Adventurers sets, I may have missed out on them but can dream of owning them I guess. The use of the Light Brick is fun and I love the way it makes a "hidden image" appear in the portrait. Try it, it's fun! The main draw of this is the lift ride and it is the the last thing you build (more or less). Clicking the chain together was a breeze (easier than 203 of the blooming things for the Roller Coaster) and installation went well. However, the first time I used it I hadn't secured the carriage in to the lift properly (don't make my mistake make sure you clip it in to place) so it went up fine but on the drop the carriage jolted loose and jammed in the shaft. This also tore one of the grey breaking plates (thank you Lego for giving me 3 in my kit). So, I had to take the tower apart to free the elevator and then to rethread the chain. Now works smoothly but, to be honest, this is on display on a high shelf so I can't really play with it. My favourite piece though is the organ. It just looks so cool built up and I can't believe how well it turned out - little mini masterpiece. For those that care - NO STICKERS! Everything is pre-printed so no nasty fiddly bits that never end up looking right. Number Of Pieces: 3231 Approximate Price Per Piece: £0.07 Build Time: 8.25 Hours
Faced with a short recovery after some minor surgery I needed something to occupy my time and this model certainly did the trick. It was a lot of fun to build, watching it go from 18 random bags to a massive house model. Anyone who is serious about the more complicated models this will certainly fit the bill. I do have issues with the elevator section but then I got it to build and not play with. Also, it's quite easy to mix up the colours of the bricks as some are grey and others this pea soup green so something to keep in mind for.
This was a highly enjoyable build taking me somewhere between 8-10 hours to complete. It's a somewhat complex build and the 18+ recommended age range is justified. That said, I would think any Lego enthusiast from ages 14+ would stand a good chance of successfully completing it. I purchased the optional PoweredUp components and can now control the elevator via the app on my iPhone. These components aren't necessary as the elevator can be manually operated by way of a turn-crank on the back of the set but I would recommend owners of this set purchase the PoweredUp pieces as they add an additional level of enjoyment. But as noted, they aren't necessary. The set contains ten mini figures which is generous. An additional nice touch was that in the instruction manual, each artifact included in the house has a humorous write-up describing the item. This set is a welcome addition to my collection and I would recommend it to other Lego aficionados out there.
This set is magical right out of box. Very easy step-by-step numbered bags, many numbers with less pieces on it, gives a great sense of accomplishment after each bag. The hidden relics and "easter eggs" are amazing and magical. A very well conceived set, it's a must for every fairground or big buildings fan. Thank you!
Loved building this but found bits a little flimsy , would of liked more ghouls and skeletons and a bigger graveyard, more halloween stuff please to add on to his
So many features in this set if you look. It pays homage to quite a few older sets. So great when the doors open at the top and you see the scared faces. I extended the are in front so when it opens it appears to be a larger interior
I was looking forward to this build as I have purchased all the Creator houses in the past, and although not in the same series was hoping for the same quality of build. However I feel the quality of this build is poor in comparison. The roof section above the entrance doesn't fit properly and doesn't line up with the other section of the roof leaving a gap. On another section of the roof there is what I can only call a kink or gap which means it does not have a straight line. The " gargoyles" that sit on the corners of the roof aren't provided all around the build. At the back by the braking mechanism there are exposed studs where in other builds there would have been plates to cover them. The last 2 points are cosmetic I know but for the money and comparing with other builds I was not happy. I have sent a complaint to Lego raising the issues.
