This is my first big Lego set since my childhood. So I'm very pleased with how easy it was to assemble, the instructions were clear and everything is now in separate bags which makes life easy. The only downside to the instruction book was the colours for grey, dark grey and black. Be sure to double check you have picked the correct piece. I think this is because its printed on a blue page. On the upside of the instruction book, there is a lovely section on the Apollo program and mission of Apollo 11 in the front. The transfers for the flag and symbols are easy to place if you have a wife with steady hands. :) I loved the gold coloured pieces they make it a very special model to look at. In fact its such a pretty model, I'm allowed to keep it in the front room!
I thoroughly enjoyed building this set. The design is well developed and the manual provided insight into the structural choices made by NASA. The gold bricks and sticker looked better than expected too. I just wished LEGO had named the astronauts (Neil and Buzz) to complete the commemoration for this amazing leap for mankind.
This was an incredible build, I was completely absorbed by the techniques used and the way it all came together to make this iconic piece of Space History. Normally having to construct the base plate is a frustrating experience but this was detailed enough to make it a good experience and it really does give a great looking moon surface for the Lunar Lander to be displayed on. A fair number of stickers with this one and, as we know by now, I am not the greatest at attaching them. Even worse some of the most important ones (ie. those on the outside of the model) have metallic finishes. The metallic stickers REALLY show if you need to peel off and re-add so I was worried. However, I was advised to use the end of the brick seperator that you would normally use for lifting flat tiles and it was a game changer. So, my sticker fu improved exponentially on this kit. On display it looks really eye catching and stands out on my overcrowded shelving. The instruction manual has a lot of interesting information about the actual Lunar Lander used back in 1969 and also a really detailed blueprint of it. The only issue I had was the blueprint was kind of small so you can't see all the fine detail but that is me being picky. Number of Bricks: 1087 Approximate Price Per Piece: £0.08 Build Time: 3 Hours
This is a great Lego and a great model of the Apollo 11 Lunar Lander. It was an easy, fun build. It looks great on my desk. I love it - might consider adding one of the light kits. It is expensive, but it's a great kit.
It's just simply amazing. The build, the model, the attention to detail. It's a must for anyone who is interested in Space or NASA and sits proudly next to my Saturn V and ISS
Built this set along with my 9yr old son. Great way to get him interested in space and visually show him how the moon landing/liftoff worked. Set is solid and is a good size. I love that they included the moon portion, it adds a lot to the set and makes it come alive. The gold "foil" pieces are well done and make the lander stand out. Flag arm patches on the mini-figs would've been great, but the NASA torso's are still well done. Would definitely recommend this set to any space LEGO enthusiast, or parent who enjoys building along with their kid.
If you are a fan of space, this is simply, a must-have. Not only is this set very well detailed but its also, honestly, very fun to build. Had a blast (pardon the pun) making this set. 100/10.
This is a good challenging model to build. It is only for the more experienced Lego builder. Just some minor hitches. The gold Lunar Lander feet do not click into the base too well, and the ring piece tends to spring up at one side when you try and press it into place at the other.
I was super excited to receive and build this model. Slightly tricky to construct the decent stage but the rest of the build was relatively straightforward. The stickers were wonderful, but it would have been a bonus to have printed tiles like the Saturn V kit - it would have lifted it to another level. The historical technical data about aspects of the crafts functionality made the build very interesting. The only thing that slightly let's the set down are the minifigs. In the earlier Discovery Luna module Lego set the minifigs had much more realistic life-support backpacks. Having said that the the overall model is much more realistic and the play function of the ascent stage is excellent. Overall it functions well as both a display piece and a play set. We definitely want more like this.
Born in the late 60s my childhood was much influenced by NASA's achievements with the Apollo project. 52 years later this Lego model encapsulates all of my childhood excitement and joy. Fascinating build and stunning end results. I simply love this Lunar Lander! Highly recommended. Thanks Lego!
