This is an amazing piece. I reconnected with LEGO's last year and this is one of my favorites. It has so much detail and is truly stunning when finished.
Great item, but some small issues. The four towers are very loose and a slight bump or movement will cause them to come apart or fall. The other issue is the four large openings. The grey bricks surrounding the openings are also loose and will not stay in place while putting this item together. Moving this item from the assemble area to my display table was also a project in its own right. The center hall is easally moved, but the four lower outer walls cannot be transported without separating them. Besides all that, the cost was worth it. This is a display piece not a play piece.
Extremely pleased with this; I got this as a Christmas present and it was definitely worth building. It's quite big to look at and the detail is brilliant. Even though it had several repetitive stages, it certainly put my patience to the test. It still looks phenomenal! At 16 years old, I just can't stop building Lego! Love it. This is actually the second biggest Lego model I own, in terms of pieces, my biggest being the UCS Milliennium Falcon, which I still have yet to build! The Lego team have done really well with this! My next review will probably be for the UCS Millennium Falcon!
I was beyond excited when seeing that Lego was re-releasing this set. Being the now second largest set ever released, I had been wanting to get my hands on it for years. The details on it are beyond gorgeous and it's definitely a show-stopper of any collection. The overall building process is not very complicated, especially since it requires repeating mostly the same steps four times for each side. The repetitiveness of it, and the pain of stacking small studs for the widows are the only thing that prevented me from giving this set a 5/5. As a warning, the finger tips will be in pain if doing it all at once. There's still a good amount of challenge for expert builders, mainly with the set comprising mostly of white bricks. Pay close attention to the dome, it's easy to misplace pieces there. It's a fun build, and with a lot of the steps repeating, it's a good one that a group of people can work on simultaneously. Thank you for bringing this one back, Lego. It's a crowd pleaser!
Its great that Lego listened and brought back this set that so many people wanted. It looks amazing and is a physically big set and good show piece. It is a relatively boring build though, lots of repetition and standard techniques (although seeing as this is a copy of the 2008 version they may have been new then). The reputation is more down to the fact this is a model of a real building which is symmetrical, so I don't think that is a knock against Lego. Obviously, lots of white but the instructions keep it clear. People have complained about building the windows out of 1x1 plates, while that is annoying it gives the windows a much closer look to the real buildings windows so its worth the hassle. While the build wasn't particularly exciting, seeing the structure grown to completion was very enjoyable and the over all the product is 100% worth it. If you like buildings and can get this set you should, you won't be disappointed, its an eye catcher.
I stayed up all night just to buy this one! i was lucky enough to buy one as soon as lego updated there page bought it The box is huge!!! I love it this is a real lego set here As you open the box there are two white boxes inside which really add weight to the box inside there are baseplates and numbered bags the instruction booklet even comes sealed in a bag the build is very easy to follow and the colors of the pieces are beautiful classic lego white Highly recommend my favorite part of the build was the top middle piece Had a blast building it however a word to lego please release highly sought after sets that were available in the past I also bought this set to support the idea of releasing sets exclusively from the lego vault a two thumbs up
I always wanted this set, and to my surprise Lego re-issued it! I stayed up on november 27th to get it, and bought it as an early Christmas present. I build this set during the Christmas holidays. There is a fair amount of repetition in building this set, which is logical, because the Taj Mahal is a symmetrical building. So the repetition didn't bother me so much. It was also helpfull: you don't need so much space, because you can build the different parts first, and put them together later. And now it is finished, and it looks great. It is a big set, just like the large version of Sydney Opera house from a few years ago (but that one was more challenging). I hope Lego will re-issue more great sets from the past.
The 10256 Lego Taj Mahal is an incredible build. There is a lot of repetition, but it is needed. I love the details in the center of the set including the many archways. As shown in my pictures, this set is built in many sections and therefore is very maneuverable. This is a plus for me because I built movable shelves and like to change it up once in a while.
This set is both very fun to build and somewhat of a challenge. I am an adult collector and the expansiveness of the set along with the various architectural features really made this build enjoyable. It is done in sections so it is easy to portion off. It is also very helpful to help gauge progress as these sections are completed. Another home run from LEGO for children and adults alike.
I hope Lego comes up with more challenging sets as the Taj Mahal. When finished the Lego Taj Mahal makes a nice display piece, but fair warning it's fairly huge. I like that the bags are numbered, for I have a small nook in the family room where I build my lego sets. I understand that people have a whole room dedicated for Lego, but this works out nice for people who don't. I have built 4 Lego sets so far and yet to have a missing piece which impresses me very much. About 1/4th way through the build process I changed my building technique a little and notice it was much easier to have every part separated and the very small pieces put into bins. It takes about 20-30 minutes to separate the pieces, but speeds up the actual build time immensely. I'm 53 years old, so playability is a non-factor for me, but I would say the Taj Mahal has no playability whatsoever. It's a very nice display piece and now I just have to find a place in a room where I can put it. I'm glad that Lego re-released this set and to all the so-called "collectors" stop calling yourself collectors. A collector is one who treasures their collections that rarely parts with anything unless it becomes really really valuable. No your just trying to make a fast buck at someone else's gullibility. I'm not a collector, for I build these Lego sets, for me that's part of the fun and it's a challenge.
