LEGO Creator Volkswagen T1 Camper Van 10220

I have had this set for a few years now and it still makes me smile every time I walk past it. The campervan is quite big which means the design team have managed to cram an incredible amount of detail into the set. There's folding chairs, lava lamps as well as a nicely detailed engine and dashboard. It's also incredibly good value for money. I recently dismantled and rebuilt this set and it's a brilliant build. Loads of pieces so it takes a wee while to put together but for me that's a very good thing. I recently also bought an LED light set for this which really sets it off. If you are a VW fan or a LEGO fan looking for your next build then don't hesitate in getting one if these.

I got this as a birthday present from my parents. Don't think they've bought me Lego for about 30 years. Lol. I loved doing this and it got me hooked on Lego again. The detail is lovely with the oven, sink and table as well as engine. Also bought a light set online for a bit of fun.

I had my eyes on this set for a while and boy was it worth it when i got it! The model is superbly detail from the rear motor to the kitchen sink and bathroom mirror inside. It is simply a beautiful model with a ridiculous eye for detail. It ends up being quite a large model which is fantastic when its a vehicle! Building it is super fun as you see the amount of detail building up with every page you turn! The top roof part extends open and adds an amazing overall feel to it. The colour scheme fits the style of the model so well and the overall design of the VW is astonishing! Honestly, you can't go wrong with this model!

This was a gift from my mother and sister from their recent vacation in California. It took me maybe 5 or 6 hours of straight building to put it together. That meant that night I had no dinner, no cleaning my house, no talking to friends, zilch! WORTH IT!! Because once it was all put together, it looked just like photos I had of the real thing! Of course, because it was Lego, some things weren't exact, but they were close enough to satisfy me! This is honestly the coolest Lego set I own. I wouldn't recommend this for people looking to buy for their kids, unless they are REALLY into Legos. It's more of a collectors piece than it is a toy, but once put together a RESPONSIBLE kid would be able to play with it with little to no problems, like losing or breaking pieces. I'm such a Lego dork, I've already taken it apart and put it back together, lol! The first time I put it together, I had problems with how some of the things fit together. The windows never would open without coming off, the doors took a little extra effort to close, the roof wasn't structurally sound (kept breaking apart). However, after I took it apart and put it back together, I found where I didn't exactly put some things together the way the instructions indicated they should be (oops for me!), and everything seemed to fit together perfectly afterward. The windows don't even break off anymore! Long story short (too late), this is awesome project for an adult or responsible older child and an excellent collectors item for ALL Lego lovers. Can't go wrong with this!

As a child I played a lot with Lego and enjoyed it very much. I am also a big fan of aircooled Volkswagens and the Splitscreen Camper Bus is awesome. A real life bus is very expensive and now lego gave everybody the change to own a VW T1 Camper for only a 100 bucks ! Great. I ordered the bus at Lego.com and received within 4 days ! great service and fast shipping. When I unpacked the box I was a child again :-) and very happy and exited. Started building for about 2 hours and loved it, many many (small) parts. There are so many great details it's just awesome. Lego did a great job looking how a real T1 Bus is like, great research. The model is looking almost exactly like the real one. The camper interior is like the real thing, kitchen, moveable seats (converts to a bed), table, etc etc. The pop-up roof is very nice extra. Thank you LEGO for making this VW T1 Camper Bus !

I went to brand new Lego store and saw that model. Details caught my eye. Next day I came back and got it. It was amazing to build lego after so many years. Building it was making me smile thinking how the designer thought about everything to fit and work. Color combination fits right with my Polish nationality White and Red. Details inside are outstanding. Roof comes off easily to show the interior. Engine looks really good. I wish lego made more of the models like that. Sorry for messed up curtain in the window

First Impression: I first saw this in a Lego catalogue and didn't see any interest in this set and ignored it, I am only 17 at the time of reviewing this and had no interest in Volkswagen in any way, after 2 years since its release it really grabbed my attention after seeing reviews and the LEGO designer video. I purchased it ahead of the other 2013 exclusive sets. This is a must have set for every Volkswagen fan and for people who grew up in the 60's. This is an impressive recreation of the iconic Volkswagen Camper Van from the 1960's, this is an iconic and popular LEGO set as its one of LEGO's best seller. Unique Parts: This set contains four unique pieces: Tr. Yellow Plate 1X1 W/Tooth, Pc used as interior lights in the Camper Van. Curtain Vw "No. 1" is a brand new element used as 6 curtains in the Camper Van. Bright Orange Pop Up Roof is another brand new element used for the Pop-Top. Brick Yellow Frame F. Train Window 1X2X3 only appears in this set in this colour. Minifigures: This set does not include any minifigures. This set is not intended for play and is only a display set with features like the actual Camper Van. Playability: This set is not really made to play, it does have features like: opening doors (4), Opening engine door which reveals the realistic engine design, opening rear window, opening safari windows, the iconic "V" front with the Volkswagen logo, front and rear licence plates, Gas tank, front and rear lights, Pop-Top, luggage rack, fold down table, seats can be changed into a bed, sink, lava lamp, plant, photo, "Make LEGO Models Not War" t-shirt, drivers area details. Build Experience: This set contains fifteen unnumbered bags. The two instruction booklets are thick which come in a cardboard sleeve to keep them straight with the stickers. The build is very enjoyable and not too repetitive starting at the bottom and working your way up, the stickers where the only down side to the build which stressed me out. The build is very study when complete. Value for Money: This retails for £79.99 in the UK and contains 1334 pieces. Volkswagen fans will really appreciate this model, however people who are not familiar may not be drawn to this set other than it is a bright vehicle which stands out from other Lego models on my shelve. It delivers a different build experience, compared to your average set as its aimed towards adults. Theme Popularity: Volkswagen is iconic and can be recognised all over the world as this will be a fine addition to your collection and will make a great collector's item. Exclusivity: This set is available at Lego Stores and http://shop.lego.com/ and other selected retailers. Packaging: The box is very classic and 60's style, with snapshots of features on the Camper Van. Growth Potential: This will do very well as a long term potential as for adults who are from the Volkswagen Community. Display Attributes: Yes, this It is a great collector's item and display piece with minor flaws like: Pop-Top is uneven, gaps in some areas, the stickers were a real pain and could have been printed, grill lines are suppose to be inside the van, engine door sticks out, small kitchen needs to be bigger, no turning axle (Even the wheel doesn't move) It could of have brick built luggage. Final Analysis/ Conclusion: Overall this set it is a must have set for every Volkswagen fan. If you're a Lego collector of cars this will also be a unique and it will stand out from other Lego cars of this scale. This set has four unique pieces. Is it worth the money: for “Volkswagen” fans is a must buy. This set is a best seller so get you hands on it when you can.

This review is primarily to warn those that already have the Volkswagen Beetle that the Van is about half the scale of the Beetle. I was rather dumbfounded as I realized this little by little during the build. I was expecting the Van to be larger than the Beetle since that's, you know, how it is in real life. However, despite this, it still is a very interesting build with several of those elusive AHA! moments Lego fans are looking for in new sets. Just don't expect it to be huge. Would have given this 5 stars except for the size. I'll include a picture if I can with the two Volkswagen sets side by side for comparison.

Building the Kleinbus took much longer than I expected. I read that the model has more than 1300 pieces but I was still surprised when the box arrived. I think it took me about five hours to build this. I had no trouble building it, the instructions were very clear and there wasn't any need for extra hands... But I do hate the stickers! This set has at least seven stickers; I managed to get three of them (the ones that go to windows) full of finger prints. I also accidentally put the rear license plate sticker upside down and had to take it off and put it back again. The sticker was ruined. I doubt this model would stand any serious play, It won't completely break down instantly, but some parts do fall off quite easily. The model looks great and it has more details than I've ever seen before in any LEGO set.
