The iconic 1989 Batwing as seen in Batman (1989) played by Michael Keaton. This monster spans just shy of 2 feet wide and is hefty in its overall weight! Though I don't play with any sets I make I don't imagine this really ranks up there in play-ability for kids and is more for display purposes only.. and what a display it is! No real complaints on the set besides the usual sticker placard instead of it being printed. I'd say this build took me about 6-8 hours in total.
This set is definitely one of the coolest Batman themed sets I've ever built. It is extremely detailed inside and out. It displays perfectly with and without the stand and on the wall. It is a symmetrical build so there is mediocre repetition. But it's extremely sturdy and very easy to move around. My nephew really enjoyed playing with it and since it's that sturdy and does not contain many parts that detach easily. I didn't have to worry about any little pieces breaking off. And, just like the recent Batmobile, this LEGO was given the right age rating. Overall, you should definitely buy this one if you have the Batmobile. PS. I hope they release the Batboat in the near future.
Solid and it's huge, i would recommend this set place on wall, that way you can fully display its unique shape and less headache finding a place for it, because it consumes so much space when on the stand and it does not look good
Thoroughly enjoyable build, would recommend to any Batfan. Looks great with the 1989 Batmobile The first thing that attracted me to this set was the ability to wall mount. This is a high quality Lego build that looks amazing on my wall.
This lego set wqs awesome and super cool to build. It hanģs very securely on the wall and looks great. The only issue I had with it, was when you decide to hang it on the wall you're kind of stuck without displaying the name plate and the figures. I created something out of the stand but it would have been cool if Lego had something you could make to go with the wall hang. Also love the edge around the wings, how that was done.
The build of this lego set was very fun and it took me a good amount of time. I like how detailed it is and it is a very good price for how big this set was. There was one missing pieces but I was easily able to replace it with a identacle piece.
First off.. I am only half way through the build on the Batwing. And I literally stopped after build instruction step 368 to write this review. This build has impressed me from step 1. The intricate detail has wowed me every step of the way. Building the wings was absolutely fantastic! The level of craftsmanship on the tail and wings has me blown away. I constantly stop and just stare in awe of the work that was put into creating this masterpiece. As much as I want this build to last forever, I am excited to complete it and hang it above the Batmobile.
I like the fact that it's very ambitious and demanding set which doesn't necessarily spark joy with every next package of bricks (feels like a endless amount) but gives great satisfaction once you see how sturdy it becomes after all this building. It's also a great way to exercise patience because it's not a one night build; if you want to really enjoy the process of building you have to take your time and make sure that you don't rush it and make mistakes that can create problems at the next steps. It was also a great way to get off the 24/7 newsreel which has been otherwise almost impossible to accomplish. Still, there are some details I think could be improved. First, the stand won't give me necessary assurance that it will hold the Batwing's weight. It should be more proportional to Batwing's dimensions. Second, the removability of the canopy isn't a great idea in its current form, because it gives me the feel that I did something wrong in the process as it doesn't really fit perfectly. Also, what happens when I decide to put the Batwing on the wall (which I will do)? Will it fall off or stay on its place with 50-50 chance of falling off?
Having bought the Batmobile earlier this year, this set was highly anticipated, and purchased it as an early bird offer on the first day. The build itself was pretty straight forward, and while there were a lot of technic frames and plates in the first few bags, you can understand the necessity of having a strong stable foundation, especially since it's designed to be able to be hung on a wall. I'm always in awe at some of the techniques the designers use to create their models, and this was no exception. The highlight of this is definitely the curvature of the wings! Whilst not to give anything away, it certainly surprised me a bit. The only negative for me was the absence of the Batclaw (which is used to capture Joker's balloons in the movie). Undoubtably this would have made a wonderful feature, especially if it was moveable, but I'd like to think the designers just couldn't make it work. The minifigs I thought were a great choice, and while I agree to a point that they should have chosen Bob over Lawrence, it still makes for a nice unique minifig on display. However, the Joker steals the show! While it's not the Joker we see in the scene with the Batwing (which would have looked too similar to the Joker with the Batmobile), he looks awesome. I still would have liked to have seen the long barreled gun with him though (would have made for a very unique addition to the minifig and set). With everything built, it looks absolutely amazing on display, especially next to the Batmobile. Now all I need is a working bat signal and my 1989 LEGO experience will be complete.
I was very excited to build this set, having finished the 1989 Batmobile in the summer. The start of the build is the same, where a framework is made to build upon. The problem was the second bag created the underside, which has about five larger slabs to stick underneath as part of the framework. They simply did not work, each part keeps popping out or falling off regardless of the amount of pressure used. I carried on building with the hope that subsequent parts will compensate but that just didn't happen. All the way through building the Batwing the underside just kept falling off. I can only assume this is a defective set I bought as nobody else has mentioned this, which boggles my mind. My only option now is to resort to using glue, which in my mind is very anti-Lego!
