[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The build quality of this is amazing , The classic lego style plus Harry potter means that this chess set is an exceptional item . The chess board once made measures at 27cm by 27cm and the chess pieces are sturdy and stand well on their own . My Harry Potter fan loved making this and was quite easy to build considering there are so many pieces . This collectors edition comes with a golden Snape and thre Harry Potter mini figures. There are also three collectible tiles . Overall this is amazing and a great addition to the range
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Receiving this Lego Hogwarts chess set I was excited to be able to build this with my family and be able to teach my children how to play chess. The box contained instructions that were slightly confusing at first, individual bags of pieces per part that needed to be built which made life so much easier and now its built, it is truly stunning. Excellent quality as always with a Lego product and the definition on the characters is immense. I have been showing it off to all my family and friends and actively encouraging them to purchase it for themselves. Definitely one to recommend to people as a show piece not just a chess set. I will definitely be purchasing other items similar.
So I get to build with Lego, Play chess and have a display. Pure gold. This was and still is fun
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] As a 30 year old brought up breathing Harry Potter, this game set was my own magical experience itself! I was lucky to get the special edition and the detailed in the pieces but also the beautiful sculpture of the board just shines how great it was built. I played this with my family and it really lived up to our expectations. I love and recommend it
So many times i went to order and this was out of stock, and being the last set needed for me to complete the gold figures for the 20th anniversary sets it was like chasing a ghost. Three times i had the email to say back in stock; and as always, nothing. It may not be the most complex of sets, but it once i had it, i thoroughly enjoyed the entire build. And then, becasue it need it, myself and a friend played a proper game of chess with the set. He of course beat me!!
As a HP fan, this is a collectible HP memorabilia and a functional chess set too. Plus the fun of building it yourself. The instruction booklet was quite easy to follow. Its nice to have 4 mini figures which includes the 3 main characters (Harry, Ron, and Hermione). Its a good size to use as a proper chess set.
Purchased this for my Harry-Pottery-obsessed 12 year old for Christmas as he's recently been teaching himself to play chess. He'll be excited about the gold Snape figure I'm sure! I think he'll enjoy putting it together and then actually being able to play chess with it (maybe it'll be the first lego set he puts together and actually keeps together!).
This set is nice to look at. Playing it was smooth as long as board is absolutely still as the very cute pieces are quite slippery on the board. Was getting a little annoyed at the idea of how to move it with all the pieces to another room but then kinda spotted the obvious solution. Build a little repetitive but then it's a chess board it was always going to be. Really like the look and teaching daughter to play after
It is a nice set, My kids enjoyed building the set. But it is hard to play with. The board is slippery and the characters are too big for the board and they fall down knocking down the others, too. It would be better to make the board bigger (using extra pieces) and also attach rubber to the bottom of the characters so that they don't fall off easily. The characters are hard to distinguish at the beginning but after a few rounds of play, it gets easier.
I wanted a Lego chess set and I'm an HP fan so I preordered this set as soon as it was possible. I think it's the first Lego set I regret buying. This set was really dull to build, no cool techniques and very repetitive (the repetitiveness was expected). The set is also very plain looking when done. I feel the board is lacking some finishing touches and the play pieces are only vaguely similar to the movie chess set. As a playable set, I'll echo another reviewer: The board is pretty small and the pieces can be hard to differentiate but it's definitely usable. Anyways, take a good look at the pictures before purchasing. There's really nothing special here. If you just want a chess set, you're probably better off designing your own.
