[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] So much building this Ornithopter from the movie Dune in Lego! When you start building you know why it says +18 on the box, it's easy to miss small but really important steps, but that's what makes this one so much fun! I really enjoyed building this 🙌
As a big Dune fan of both the novels and films, the second I saw this set I pre-ordered it. I was pleasantly surprised by the latest movie treatment of the franchise. The Ornithopter is iconic and this set represents the version from the new film perfectly. It is an intricate build but I did not find it that difficult to follow. I am used to large Technic sets so this was nothing too different. The mechanics of the wings flapping and folding and legs retracting are superb. The set is much larger than you would expect and the wing span is massive. It also includes mini figs of most of the major characters which is a nice touch and appreciated. Overall a great, must get set for fans of Dune and Lego. Now we need a sand worm diorama.
I have been interested in this set since it was first announced, but a bit concerned about the design and boxy look and if I would still like it after the build… I ordered it online on Monday, spent a few days still worried about it, then it turned up today and WOW! A very surprising, technical and intricate build for the frame, landing gear and wing mechanism - exceptional. I want to keep building but also want to stretch out the experience a few days. This is proving to be an awesome set and think will be a real collectible - great job Lego team on this one!!!
Love the game and love the Lego sett❤️❤️ hopefully more dune awakening sets come out just love the build super creative and everything was just to perfection. Can't wait to see more DUNE sets to come
The Dune Ornithopter was one of the first large sets I've boughten in years and boy I was not disappointed! With a very respectable price tag, a challenging yet satisfying build, and most of all, an absolutely cool looking set with very neat features (especially the wings) I would recommend this set 10 times out of 10.
This is a great kit to build, it will take some time, It took me about 9 hours to put this together. It's a great blend of Technic and advanced Lego modeling. There are few spots in the instruction where they do a poor job of showing the connections, the wing root to spar connections can be a little confusing. Other spots in the instructions could have been combined a bit more. It is a straight forward set of build instructions otherwise. This is a monster of a build once completed. Wings folded back, 22 inches in length, 16 inches wide and 6.5 inches tall. This will fill up a book shelf completely for display. The designers were geniuses for all the functions built into this. A press lever behind the main structure moves the wings, a rotation knob under the back wings will lower the ramp and extend out the legs. There is a flip knob at the top by the wings that make the prop blades fold back and extend out. The cockpit can open to add figures. The seats pop out to put the figures in and then add it back into the cockpit. That is a lot of functions to place in this piece and it really adds to the playability / display options. Finally, WOW! It looks incredible. If you are a fan of Dune, you will want this in your collection. If you like complex builds, and a really eye popping Lego kit, you will want to get this build.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The day when package arrived, the most happiest was my 6y old. He can't wait when he can start. We know tahat on package says 18+ but even 6y old can manage it with a little bit help from his mom. It took about 7-8 hours (two nights) to finish it. He can't wait when he get new challenge to handle. Wery easy and simple instructions.
I love everything about this set except the wings. They are all significantly bent in one direction, making the set look a bit "derpy". The whole wing mechanism is genius but the wing pieces themselves are just not straight as they should be. I love the combination of Technic mechanisms with a regular Lego exterior. The Dune minifigures are cool as well. So it's disappointing that the most important part of the build looks like this.
If you are a fan of the Dune movies, this set is a must have. It looks fantastic. The build is great - the functionality of the flapping and retracting wings is remarkable. The only downside is all the wings were curved in the same direction so the wings on one side end up curving up and wings on the other side end up curving down. I tried bending them the other way to straighten them out but didn't want to risk damaging them. That was my only complaint though.
An overall amazing build with a great mix of system and technic parts. Play functionality offered is amazing. After a day or 2, the wings to the right of the cockpit have sagged substantially. An issue with the part? Perhaps this orientation causes just a little extra stress than the other way up? Strangely nothing online addressing this?
