LEGO Icons The Lord of The Rings: The Shire Building Set -10354

This set was an absolute joy to build, and the level of detail is mind-blowing. There are so many easter eggs and references to the movies, and all of the figures are beautiful. It's an awesome display model for any fan of Lord of the Rings. My only complaint is that it seems a little overpriced considering the piece count, but with the addition of the exclusive gift with purchase, it made it worth it.

Honestly I only got this set due to the gwp campaign this September and wasn't expecting the set to be this good. The Minifigures are great and the set looks good overall. I also really liked how you could build with multiple people which I did with my friend.

great product, fun build, love Lego and appreciate keeping the Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit products alive and continuing the legacy of J.R.R. Tolkien.

This is one of the most beautiful Lego builds I have put together. So many fun features, minifigs, and just overall striking to look at. The pictures do not do it justice. If you have been on the fence, just buy it. A must for any LOTR fan.

This was the third LEGO LOTR set I bought (I got it straight away so I also got the GWP Smeagol and Deagol addition, which I gave to my friend later on). I'll be honest it's the lowest of the 4 existing ICONS LOTR sets imo, it's not at all a bad set and I fully do recommend buying it if you are a fan of the movies and books! The detail inside Bag-End is great, the outside looks great too. The minfigs you get are quite decent (though we've gotten Frodo and Sam in so many sets by now!), Rosie and the neighbors are a great addition imo. For me where the set falls short is it's scale. It should've been bigger and cover more of Bag End itself, cover the kitchen we see in the Hobbit, cover Bilbo's bedroom (again we see it in the Hobbit), show all of it. Not just like 3 rooms and that's it. The "Hill" wasn't deep reaching enough, they tried to make up for that with the side-builds but for me those side builds were unnecessary (the tree especially is not really well designed at all) and took away from Bag End itself which was lacking. My ideal Bag End (no idea why LEGO called it the Shire in the first place?) would've been just Bag End, with all the extra rooms we saw in the Hobbit, with the same minfig selection + maybe Thorin's Company and a young Bilbo - so you could choose which era of Bag End you wanna see, LOTR or the Hobbit. Both great eras imo! Still while it's not a 10/10 set for me, as a major fan of both trilogies - I'd give it a solid 7.5/10. Still a set I recommend to fans, just for the beautiful facade of Bag-End alone!

My wife and kids have recently got into LEGO sets. So far so good. Both me and my son got some sets for Christmas so I thought it would be fun to get The Shire set for my wife. We have been co-building it for about 4 nights now. But have hit a stopping point due to a missing (fireplace rotation) piece and cannot finish until we receive it. LEGO’s missing piece support is great and easy to submit however, so hopefully we get the replacement piece soon. Would still recommend to friends and family.

I put off buying this set for a good few months as was hesitant given the mixed reviews. I ended up biting the bullet and ordered this set, and I'd urge anyone else sitting on the fence to do the same. It's not a massively complex build, but still requires some attention to get right. I also quite like the smaller side builds, yes they are very basic and could certainly have been designed better and bigger, however they are recognisable scenes and add to the overall finish of the set. End result looks great and I love the colours (they look a lot better in person than on any picture) although it could potentially do with some more flowers etc to offset the green. Fortunately I have plenty of left over pieces from other sets that I can use for that. It may not be as big and as impressive as the other LOTR sets but it's still a worthy addition. Worth the price? Questionable. But if you are a real LOTR fan then it is certainly worth a buy.

The Shire set has been critised for value for money, and for the poor quality of the trees, and these are all valid issues I agree with. But what it lacks in the default build, it can really make up with the ability to expand on it (if you have the pieces to do so), make the trees better, increase the footprint, and for me, it was a case of ignoring the satalite pieces and instead give the Proodfoot family an extension piece. Another tip is to use the Bonsai Tree set to replace the default tree that comes in the set. The set is worth it if you have some additional pieces to expand, add more foiliage and of course, upgrade that tree!.

This set needed more plant/grass details. And of course the tree also needed help. I feel lukewarm to it. Lego should build a supplement set that gives more options to add other hills/dens for other hobbit families. In addition, I would love to get a kit for customization of the plants.

I have many large Lego sets, and LoTR Rivendell remains my favourite of all. I also really like the external appearance of Barad-Dur (though not the comedy interior !). This Shire set looked a bit suspect as soon as I saw it announced - it is what I would call "twee", looking more like something for a child. Absolutely no attempt to shade the grass (why DID they use that horrible emerald green ?), topped of by some frankly awful tree models (especially compared with Rivendell). I was finally persuaded to purchase by the GWP, however I may simply end up not displaying either set and simply sell them on - I simply don't like the end result. Price is on the edge of excessive given the design quality. I really hope any future LoTR models (Minas Tirith pleeeeeeease) return to form
