This is the first lego set I ever built. Unfortunately the Saturn V set was retired because I waited too long till I had the money for it, so I purchased this set and back ordered the lunar module and oh boy this set did not disappoint! Had such a great time with my sister building this and looks stunning on the desk and while building it I had those "aha!" moments when I found out what the piece represent on the ISS. I'd explain to my sister what part was which while we built it and she became very curious about each aspect. Overall, thank you so much lego for making this Idea project come to life and hope you will bring back that Saturn V :)
I've been on a Space kick of late and this one has been catching my eye for a while. I am glad I took the plunge and purchased the kit as it was a lot of fun to build. This starts with the instruction book that has a plethora of information on the I.S.S. which was interesting to read through before I started the build. One downside is the blue background of the instruction manual, I found it distracted from the build experience and made some of the diagrams hard to see - some are in a white background fly out and much clearer. One good thing about it is there are no stickers, everything is prepinted. With the number of tiles needed to create the solar panel fins this is a very, very good thing. As a completed figure it is enormous and much bigger than I expected. Looks really good on display and it is really east to adjust the fins for the solar panels and also the white stabilisers. Very happy with the finished look and the sturdiness of it. Despite having a few issues when constructing it because I am ham fisted it was nicely rigid when carrying it upstairs to my display area. Number Of Pieces: 864 Approximate Price Per Piece: £0.08 Build Time: 2 Hours
Other than a few steps that could be moved around to make an easier building experience, the build was generally pretty good, ending on a production line assembling the 8 solar panel arms, each with eight 1x4 solar panel plates, that would have been much nicer as a larger 2x4 or 2x8 plate. But after all your hard work, you are rewarded with a fantastic detailed set with rotatable solar panels and numerous docking craft for added flare.
Given the scale, this is an excellent set! Every step requires attention in order the essential stability of final large thing can be met! And something else: The space shuttle CAN BE docked to the ISS. Actually the whole set looks like more beautiful this way and I can't understand why this isn't mentioned anywhere. Just notice the parts left after the completition...... see the picture..
Purchased this as a Christmas present for my 10 year old daughter who is both nasa and lego obsessed, I expected it to take her a good day to build but she had it completed in just a couple of hours. It's very delicate and easy to knock parts off but looks great on display in her room
Have been a fan of Lego for a while, but hadn't built anything big. This was my first legit Lego building experience and loved it very much! The ISS was an amazing idea for a Lego. The details are great. The build time wasn't too long, the instructions were perfect, but took a while for me due to my lack of experience. Would definitely recommend this for a Space and Lego fanatic!
As a big fan of all things space (and an aerospace engineer by education), this set was a must have! I was a little concerned when I read some reviews about this not being the most stable pieces, but those are wrong! The base is pretty solid and the build experience and the booklet included were amazing!
I have been interested about space since I was a kid, and I built my own spaceships by using lego during the 80's. So now, being a father and all, my love for lego has started again, so this purchase was "a must have". There are few things in this kit, that I would have done differently, the main culprit being the stand, and other details around the station itself, like radiators, or other modules at the "foreground" that are not "locked" in place. But building it was great. Quality and instructions were superb, like you can expect from Lego. It is nice to see Lego getting "back to space" again, and also more thrilling it is to see it being done with so much realism, and attention to detail.
I would definitely recommend this build to any space lovers out there. Firstly, it's extremely detailed. Secondly, you are getting your money's worth! Although, I should point out that it is very fragile and you'll need steady hands and fingers. Overall great product and I highly recommend it!
Pros: The model ISS is very beautiful viewed from distance like a few feet away. Love the mini astronauts, they are very cute. Cons: I wish LEGO could put some effort into the build instruction booklet. Explain what the pieces put together are equivalent to on the real ISS. Not just plain step by step instructions and in the end you don't even know what they represent. And also it would be nice if the space shuttle was in scale with the ISS model
