I really enjoyed putting this set together. When I saw the bag of transparent pieces I thought “OMG” that's going to be difficult to do” but I was ok. I enjoyed the challenge of putting the bottle together especially the bottom of the bottle. And the size of it! I knew the measurements but I was shocked how big it was when finished. Highly recommended build
I love this product. I would like to thank the creator Jack Sadovich for coming up with this concept. When I first saw it I knew what I wanted to do with it. As you can see from the picture yo will notice I've made it personal to me. My grandma and aunt were killed back in the summer of 2016 and them my grandpa passed away this past October. I thought this kit was a great way to have something to remember them by in a unique way. I hope Mr. Sadovich doesn't mind me making it personal to me.
From start to finish this set is an enjoyable build. I've never seen Lego release a set quite like it. It is very unique. It was difficult to attach the top of the bottle just right. It wasn't anything over the top challenging, but it definitely would takes an advanced builder. It's not as big as the original fan created, but the size is probably just right.
The ship in a bottle was clearly designed for a couple, when you need to build at least two of everything. It was brought as a gift and my partner and I sat down for 3 hours and spent some quiet time helping to piece it together. I did not believe it was possible for 921 pieces to come out of something that looked so easy, but you got me. What I also found challenging was the clear Lego pieces, which all had to be built to make the base of the bottle. Silly me thought it came in larger blocks. But we had fun and it was well worth the money. My only problem is I have children who will destroy it and I'm unsure about taking it all apart just to glue it together or not.
Fun to build although tricky to pick out tiny clear bricks and studs among all the other tiny clear bricks and studs. This made the bottom of the bottle the fiddliest part to put together. My eyes were so tired I sat the rest aside until the next day. It goes together fairly quickly after that and looks amazing! I have displayed it proudly on my shelf with the 'compass' orientated north. So many nice pieces make up great detail on this. I love it. Very happy with the display value of this. Easy to dust too.
This set is a great as a home display, with these colourful bricks the building is amazing and so much fun. The only cons I find the price in Canadian $is a little bit high, and the designer could have merged two pieces of WALL ELEMENT 1X4X3 Element 4594686 to form a big piece WALL ELEMENT 1X4X6 this would make the ship more visible.
Recently I built this set with my sister and she noticed that in the bottom where there are a lot of transparent pieces it seems that the bricks got yellow. I told her that this is because of the lights in the room. On the next week, I noticed that she was right, and indeed in the daylight it seemed really yellow. I don't know if its normal or not, but I am surprised that a transparent pieces could get so yellow together. Is this a quality issue or normal at this set? Even if I light it with my mobile phone's light, which is white, the color is yellow.
I like it a lot. I've always loved the ocean and I was in the Navy so it works for me but there's something off about some of the transparent pieces, some are normal and are clear but then some of a yellowish tint to them like a smokers teeth..
If I could give this 3.5 stars I would. The build is simple and quick - too quick but that's because the piece count, while accurate, isn't reflective of the BUILD PIECE count since all the water pieces (well over 200) just get dumped into the bottle. So there is that and there is also the poor packaging of the clear parts that make up the bottle. Sadly all of mine have scratches which really take away from the already obscured view of the ship (the seams going straight up the middle are a head scratching choice). I am still glad that I got this as it's so unique and interesting and like no other LEGO set and bonus for no stickers! In closing, this is a great display piece and worth the purchase if you know up front the downsides. I would buy it again, but would have been more satisfied with my purchase had I known about the water pieces. Perhaps LEGO should consider a total piece count and a BUILD piece count on the box for sets like this.
Three pieces broke before finishing bag 1 so I'm now waiting on replacement parts. Wondering how many more will break and how long it will actually take to finish building. I've done dozens and dozens of sets over many years and I have never had this issue.
