I bought this LEGO set as a gift for my Mum, as we both love Van Gogh's art and I was coming back to her place for over a week this summer. I used to play with LEGO a lot as a kid, but never got to share this hobby with my parents. So, this might have been quite a strong introduction for my now-septuagenarian beginner Mum, but we took our time, advancing together little by little in the evenings, and we both loved the experience.
This is a rather complicated build, but very rewarding. You can feel that all the people involved in the creation of this set were passionate and loved the original artwork that inspired it. The result is striking, and the inclusion of the Van Gogh LEGO minifigure is a lovely and playful bonus.
I haven't seen it mentioned, but the build allows two positions for little Vincent, either on the side or centered. When positioning the finished work on a shelf in my mother's office, I eventually opted to keep the figurine near the artwork, but separated from it.
The set is retiring soon, so if you're interested, don't hesitate to get it while you can. You will not regret it, I guarantee it!
When I made the purchase, the gift with purchase was the Tribute to Leonardo da Vinci. How lucky was I? :)
