I've always wanted a LEGO advent calendar, and this set was the first one I wanted enough to buy. I LOVE the ornaments, and I really hope I'll be able to add more ornaments to my LEGO Christmas tree year-after-year. Thank you LEGO! Excited for December to begin!
Wow! 24 different mini-models here! Some are really cute. There's even a tiny tic-tac-toe game and a signature model for each Friends character (see guitar, roller skate, trophy, camera, and microscope!). Looking at other reviews here, I didn't see it mentioned that this year's Friends Advent Calendar has more than DOUBLE the usual piece count (500 vs. 215 or so). I imagine this is because minidolls are one of the most expensive parts that LEGO makes, and they aren't included this time. Personally, I have no problem with that. This is a different play experience than in the past. Instead of building a tiny scene with the Friends characters, children are encouraged to build life-sized ornaments to decorate their tree, or other space. I imagine this "shared crafting experience" (similar to the 41346 Friendship Box) may encourage kids to pull out their spare bricks and try making more decorations of their own designs! I appreciate that the wide variety of colorful parts included are generic enough to be re-used throughout the year — add them to your other sets or build more original creations!
I always choose between Friends, City and StarWars advent calendars every year. Usually City wins. But this year the Friends calendar is the one to pick in my opinion. It has over 100 pieces more than either of the others and every mini build is designed to act as a tree ornament, just thread some string through and there you go. I must admit I'm not a fan of mini-dolls so the fact that this doesn't have any is a bonus for me but I can understand why people are annoyed about there not being any. The City and StarWars ones both come with several. I do think that this should have at least one exclusive printed figure. If the StarWars calendar came with an exclusive printed figure I'd buy that hands down but this year it's Friends all the way.
I purchased this set for my daughter for Advent and while this is a really cute set with some unique and season builds, I already know she will be disappointed that there are no minifigures. Her brother will be getting the lego City themed one which comes with a couple of mini-figures. One of her favorite things to do is to take apart and recreate her mini=figures and their outfits. Why not include a couple mini-figures or Lego Friends in this set? I am a little disappointed....
Purchased for my daughter. She will be very disapointed that there will not be a minifigure in this year's set. In the first three days she's been saying that maybe the next day she will get a figure. I just looked it up and found out that there will not be one this year. Very little continuous play factor for kids. She usually loves placing and playing with her minifigs and accessories on the advent calendar play area. None of that this year. I should have done my research on this set before purchasing. This set is good for older kids or adults that want to build things and put them on display. Not god for kids (or adults) that want to PLAY with LEGO. In my opinion this set is a miss on LEGO's part.
City and Star Wars both come with minifigures . Why aren't there any with friends? There also used to be accessories - like skis? How about a pet or 2? Cute designs for just hanging out with Classic Lego boxes, but not enough for an advent calendar. How about some new calendar themes- jungle, elves, animals, harry potter, racers? Where is your imagination?
I didn't really look at the calendar this year before purchasing. And if I had, I likely wouldn't have purchased. We prefer the scenes that have come in the past. My daughter even commented that the scenes were better because you could play with it afterwards. She enjoys building and we are displaying on a tree but after Christmas, the pieces have no real use which is disappointing.
We have purchased every Lego Friends advent calendar and this is the first year we are disappointed. There are no Friends in this set. There are no pets in this set. There is no scene to build and interact with. It's a new ornament to build each day. They don't even come with a string or hook to hang them on the tree. My daughter is so disappointed. Not what I expected from Lego. Will be looking closely at future sets before purchasing.
This is the 4th friends advent calendar I have purchased for my daughter. She was disappointed that after 9 days there were no minifigures from friends in the set. Because I dont like to ruin surprises, I did not look online to see if there were any beforehand, and now she is disappointed because there are no minfigs for the first time ever. My daughter is pretty upset because she has not found any minifigures yet in the spaces, so I plan to go go buy a couple online for her to find in a couple of the days so she is not utterly disappointed. Thanks for tarnishing a annual tradition. Not because I dont get any minifigures, but because I had to see the disappointment in my daughters face each day she did not get one.
with no minfig, no animals, no accessories and no playable aspects at all this is a total miss. my 4year old daughter is so turned off this so far that she doesnt rush to open it. actually she doesnt open them any more 8 days in and either me or my son open hers now. this was a horrible purchase and i am deeply disappointed. she asked everyday where are my people while her brother with his star wars calendar right beside hers has racked up 3 minifigs already. fine say you wanted to try something different, then make a different calendar for that and not experiment with this. she was so looking forward to this for months since we bought the calendar and now i get to see disappointment on her face if she actually decides to open the day....
