I enjoyed this set way more than I expected. It displays really well, especially when sunshine gets to the ice sculpture and the pearl-translucent ice rink. So many storylines you could make up with the mini figures too. I agree that the mini figures are emphasized a lot in this set, but that is what Lunar New Year festival is: it's about the fun activities people can do together. The building experience, however, is fun but less attractive compared to the finished product. You will be spending most of your time building the base of the ice rink. I also agree this set could benefit from having more LNY related items. On the other hand, less emphasis on the LNY items also makes this set to fit in any winter village themed displays easily.

New Way To Celebrate Lunar New Year

OldestMerryThing January 22, 2022

This is the 2nd year I collect LEGO Lunar New Year. I appreciate that LEGO is using the correct word "Lunar New Year" as this New Year is not only for Chinese, but also for other Asian countries who use the Lunar Calendar. With that being said, it would be nice if the future set could have some Happy New Year pieces printed in different languages (Korean, Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese, Filipino, etc) so that we have a choice to pick our own. The Ice Festival is a unique idea as Lunar New Year is always falling in winter, and here in North America, it is snowy. I wish there were more ice sculptures. There is a little mistake in the instructions on page 273: I have to place the last part in the middle - instead of on the left side so that it can hook properly (see last picture). The LEGO Ice Festival set is a new way to celebrate Lunar New Year. Beautiful set with 13 minifigures including one in a Tiger costume and hurray, no sticker 8-)

Wonderful ice scene

This was an impulse buy and I am definitely not disappointed with my purchase. It looks even better in real life and was such a pleasure to build with a very effective frozen ice rink. This will be part of my christmas display for years to come.

Wonderful kit as always

Really playful and nicely presented. Just have a question of the penguin.. well, what is this little thing carrying? Pretty hard on guessing and still have no idea what is that orange little block the penguin carrying on his back. I always get Lego's design and funny ideas, but not this time... anyone knows?

Lovely set with an icy theme

(This review was collected as part of a promotion.) I was upset that I missed the Chinese New Year Temple Fair and Story of Nian, but I gladly received this set as a gift from my friend. I really enjoy the Chinese New Year series and will keep collecting these Chinese culture-related sets. I'm so glad and appreciate that Chinese New Year has become more popular in different communities these years. I have no problem with the name "Lunar New Year," but I would prefer "Spring Festival," which is more accurate culturally. For more detailed information, Chinese New Year (農曆新年/农历新年) is based on the Lunisolar Calendar (Solar+Lunar), so Lunar New Year is an inaccurate way to represent this festival. Chinese people called it Nong Li (農曆/农历), "Nong" means "farming" in Chinese; the Lunisolar Calendar came from ancient Chinese cultivation culture. From a historical point of view, it is now called the "Nong Li," resulting from the so-called eradication of the Four Olds during the Cultural Revolution. In fact, this name is also inappropriate. The date fluctuates in the seasons for up to a month, which is not very suitable for agricultural production. To be precise, it should be called "漢曆/汉历/Han Li." (This name is based on the rules of the "Han Calendar" made by Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty, and the name of the "Han Li Daquan" made by Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty). However, I believe most Chinese people don't know this either. It is incredible that I can enjoy Lego building and learn more about different cultures around the world at the same time.

Ice Festival

Anonymous March 30, 2022

The build was really detailed and the layers worked well together. There were lots of interesting parts usage and a good variety of colours. There were lots of clever ideas and play features. The minifigure selection was excellent and varied and there were a lot of figures to complete the set. The overall finished build looked amazing on display and was great to play with too.
